History

[edit]

Establishment

[edit]

Napshot Avenue was founded in 2007 by Malaysian entrepreneur Nicholas Wong Yew Khid.

According to Wong's corporate biography published by Seacera Group Berhad, he entered the paintball industry in 2007 and established Napshot Avenue as part of his business activities in the sports and entertainment sectors.[1]

The business developed during a period of growth in Malaysian recreational and competitive paintball.

By 2009, Napshot was operating as a specialist paintball equipment retailer in the Damansara Perdana area of Petaling Jaya.

Contemporary Malaysian paintball forum discussions identified the business as a source of paintball equipment and listed its address and telephone number.[6]

Development during the late 2000s

[edit]

Napshot supplied equipment to recreational and tournament players and developed relationships with Malaysian paintball teams.

Its activities included retail sales, equipment support and sponsorship.

A November 2009 statement by tournament team Rocknrolla thanked Napshot Paintball for supporting the team during Paintball World Cup Asia and providing technical assistance when equipment problems occurred.[3]

Napshot also participated in equipment sponsorship arrangements involving other suppliers and the Malaysian tournament community.

An October 2009 report by Rocknrolla documented the presentation of Azodin Kaos markers to the team.

The report identified Kevin Wong as a representative of Napshot Avenue attending the presentation alongside representatives of the Paintball Asia League Series.[7]

Expansion into tournament support

[edit]

By 2010, Napshot Avenue was closely associated with the administration and organisation of Malaysian competitive paintball.

The company's premises were listed as the headquarters of the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit.

Napshot also supported teams participating in the MPOC and World Cup Asia.

Contemporary reports identify Napshot personnel and associates as participants in tournament sponsorship, equipment support and industry activities.

Retail operations

[edit]

Petaling Jaya premises

[edit]

Napshot operated from premises in Bandar Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

The documented address was:

52-1, Jalan PJU 8/5B, Bandar Damansara Perdana, 47820 Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.

The address appeared in Malaysian paintball community listings in 2009 and in the published administrative information for the 2010 Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit.[2][6]

Commercial directory listings also identify Napshot Avenue Sdn. Bhd. at the same address.[8]

Another business directory lists an address at 11A Jalan PJU 3/47, Petaling Jaya. The chronology of these premises and whether they represent a relocation has not been established.[9]

Products and services

[edit]

Napshot specialised in paintball equipment and accessories.

Its activities included equipment retailing, technical support and supplying tournament players.

Nicholas Wong's corporate biography identifies the business as having supplied paintball equipment brands including Tippmann, Kee Action Sports and GI Sports.[1]

Contemporary team reports also document Napshot's technical support activities.

The available evidence does not establish the precise dates of individual distribution agreements or whether Napshot held exclusive Malaysian distribution rights for any manufacturer.

Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit

[edit]

MPOC headquarters

[edit]

Napshot Avenue had an operational relationship with the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit.

A January 2010 tournament announcement identified the MPOC headquarters as being located inside Napshot Avenue Sdn. Bhd.'s premises in Petaling Jaya.[2]

The announcement listed the circuit's administrative structure, including tournament director Paul Lam, rules official Junaidi Khalil and registration and liaison officer Allan Phang.

The shared premises provide documentary evidence of Napshot's connection to the tournament's administration.

However, the listing does not independently establish that Napshot Avenue owned or legally operated the MPOC.

Tournament support

[edit]

Napshot supported Malaysian tournament teams and the wider MPOC competition structure.

In July 2011, an MPOC appreciation statement publicly thanked Nick Wong of Napshot for his continued support of the domestic paintball circuit.[10]

The acknowledgement also identified other Malaysian equipment suppliers and international sponsors involved in supporting the competition.

Napshot's involvement formed part of a broader relationship between commercial paintball businesses and organised tournament competition in Malaysia.

Team sponsorship and technical support

[edit]

Rocknrolla

[edit]

Napshot sponsored Malaysian tournament team Rocknrolla during the 2009 season.

In November 2009, the team thanked Napshot Paintball for its support during World Cup Asia and for providing technical assistance during equipment emergencies.[3]

The team also acknowledged support from Azodin Paintball, MacDev Ronin and other members of the Malaysian tournament community.

MacDev Ronin

[edit]

Napshot was associated with the sponsorship and support of MacDev Ronin, a Malaysian Division 1 tournament team.

A December 2010 statement published by the team thanked Napshot personnel identified as Paul, Nicholas and Kevin.

The acknowledgement appeared alongside other sponsors and supporters, including MacDev Australia, Paintball TAG and the Sabah Paintball Association.[4]

MacDev Ronin had competed in the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit and World Cup Asia during the 2010 season.

KSK Flash

[edit]

Napshot also supported KSK Flash, a Malaysian tournament team associated with Kelab Sukan Keretapi.

A retrospective account published by a KSK Flash player in April 2011 identified Napshot among the team's sponsors for that season.[5]

The team had won the 2010 MPOC Division 4 overall championship and subsequently moved into Division 3.

The account also identified Empire as an equipment sponsor.

The exact commercial arrangements between Napshot and KSK Flash have not been established.

Other teams

[edit]

Napshot's involvement in Malaysian tournament paintball extended beyond these documented examples.

Further research into historical team websites, tournament programmes and sponsorship announcements may identify additional teams supported by the company.

Teams should only be added to this article where a sponsorship or equipment-support relationship can be established through a contemporary source.

Energizer Night Strike

[edit]

Background

[edit]

The Energizer Night Strike was a night-time paintball competition held at Xtion Paintball Park in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, in January 2011.

The event was organised by Energizer Malaysia as part of a promotional campaign for its Energy Beam product range.[11]

It was presented as Malaysia's first themed night paintball tournament.

The competition used ultraviolet lighting, fluorescent paintballs and a capture-the-flag format.

Competition format

[edit]

Energizer Night Strike featured seven-minute paintball rounds played in darkness under ultraviolet lighting.

The playing area included illuminated objectives and scenario elements.

The competition attracted 19 teams and involved approximately 85 matches.[12]

A.C.E. won the tournament and received RM20,000.

Double R finished second and received RM10,000, while Black Cell placed third and received RM5,000.[12]

Napshot involvement

[edit]

Napshot was involved in the event through its personnel and industry activities.

In a report published in March 2011, Kevin Wong was identified as general manager of Napshot in connection with Energizer Night Strike.[13]

Wong discussed the potential for themed events to introduce paintball to new participants.

The event demonstrated Napshot's involvement in recreational and promotional paintball activities beyond conventional tournament competition.

Energizer Malaysia was the publicly identified event organiser, and Napshot should not be described as the sole organiser without additional evidence.

People

[edit]

Nicholas Wong Yew Khid

[edit]

Nicholas Wong Yew Khid founded Napshot Avenue in 2007.

He was involved in the Malaysian paintball equipment industry and supported tournament paintball activities.

A February 2010 proposal concerning the formation of a Malaysian paintball federation identified Nicholas Wong as a representative associated with the Selangor Paintball Association.[14]

The document concerned a proposed interim committee and does not establish that he subsequently held a confirmed office in a completed federation structure.

Nicholas was also publicly acknowledged for his support of the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit in 2011.[10]

Kevin Wong

[edit]

Kevin Wong, nicknamed Kevo, was involved with Napshot Avenue during the late 2000s and early 2010s.

A contemporary Rocknrolla report identified him as a Napshot Avenue representative in October 2009.[7]

In 2010, Kevin captained Xtioneers II to the Division 2 championship at the PALS Philippines tournament.[15]

A March 2011 report identified him as a general manager associated with Napshot's involvement in Energizer Night Strike.[13]

Kevin and Nicholas Wong have been identified as brothers through firsthand historical testimony; independent published confirmation of their family relationship has not yet been located.

Paul

[edit]

A December 2010 MacDev Ronin acknowledgement identified a person named Paul alongside Nicholas and Kevin as part of Napshot's support network.[4]

The person's full identity and formal position within the business have not been established from that source.

He should not automatically be identified as tournament organiser Paul Lam without additional evidence.

Relationship with Malaysian paintball

[edit]

Napshot Avenue operated during an important period in the development of organised paintball in Malaysia.

Its documented activities connected several aspects of the industry:

  • Specialist retail and equipment supply
  • Technical assistance for tournament players
  • Sponsorship and support of competitive teams
  • Administrative support for the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit
  • Participation in recreational and promotional events

The business's association with both established Division 1 teams and developing teams illustrates the role of equipment suppliers in supporting different levels of competitive paintball.

Its premises also served as a documented administrative location for the MPOC in 2010.

Napshot's involvement in Energizer Night Strike demonstrated the industry's efforts to introduce alternative paintball formats to recreational participants.

Later history

[edit]

The company's activities after the early 2010s have not yet been fully reconstructed.

Commercial directory listings continue to identify Napshot Avenue Sdn. Bhd. and Napshot Paintball in Petaling Jaya.

However, those listings do not independently establish the business's present operating status.

The date of any closure, sale, restructuring or change in ownership has not been confirmed.
