Xtion Paintball Park
Xtion Paintball Park was a paintball facility and tournament venue located at the National Xtreme Sports Park within the National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Established in 2003 and officially launched on 12 July 2005, it became an important centre for the development of competitive paintball in Malaysia and the wider Asia-Pacific region. [1][2]
The park hosted international tournaments including Nation Cup 2004, the Asia Pacific Paintball Championship 2005 and the early editions of Paintball World Cup Asia. It was also closely associated with the establishment of the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit (MPOC) and the Paintball Asia League Series (PALS). [2][3]
In addition to tournament paintball, Xtion operated recreational fields, corporate team-building activities, training programmes and promotional events. Its facilities included inflatable-bunker tournament fields, a recreational playing area, compressed-air equipment and spectator accommodation. [4]

History
[edit]Establishment
[edit]Xtion Paintball Park was established in 2003 at the National Xtreme Sports Park, formerly known as Family Park, within the National Sports Complex at Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. [1][5]
The park developed during a period of expansion in organised Malaysian paintball, when recreational operators and competitive teams were establishing dedicated facilities and domestic tournaments.
Xtion was officially launched on 12 July 2005 by Malaysia's Minister of Youth and Sports. [1]
Although the formal opening took place in 2005, the facility had already been operating and hosting paintball activities since 2003.
The park's tenth anniversary was celebrated in April 2013, confirming that the organisation regarded 2003 as its founding year. [6]
Development as a tournament venue
[edit]Xtion Paintball Park became one of Malaysia's principal tournament paintball facilities during the mid-2000s.
Its development coincided with the expansion of inflatable-bunker paintball and the growing participation of Malaysian teams in international competitions.
The park provided dedicated tournament fields, compressed-air facilities and training opportunities for teams preparing for domestic and overseas events.
It also offered recreational paintball and corporate activities, helping introduce the sport to new participants.
The venue became associated with the development of the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit and later the Paintball Asia League Series. [2]
Facilities
[edit]Playing fields
[edit]Historical descriptions of Xtion Paintball Park identify five playing fields, including recreational and tournament areas.
The park's own website described a two-acre recreational area known as the Mayhem Zone and four international tournament-sized fields measuring approximately 200 by 120 feet. [2]
Other facility descriptions identified three speedball tournament fields alongside recreational areas, suggesting that the number and configuration of playing fields changed over time. [4]
The tournament fields used inflatable Sup'Airball bunkers and could accommodate different competitive formats.
The park advertised facilities suitable for tournaments involving teams ranging from three to fifteen players. [1]
Recreational paintball
[edit]Xtion offered recreational paintball games for individuals, groups and corporate customers.
Its Mayhem Zone was used for recreational and scenario-style paintball, while the dedicated tournament fields supported competitive play and team training.
Rental equipment included mechanical and electronic paintball markers.
The park also organised birthday parties, corporate team-building events, school activities and other recreational programmes. [2]
Supporting infrastructure
[edit]The park's historical facilities included:
- High-pressure air compressor and carbon dioxide filling systems
- Briefing and staging areas
- Toilets and shower facilities
- Food and refreshment areas
- Parking
- Spectator grandstands
- Target-shooting range
- Event areas for corporate functions and exhibitions
- Equipment rental and merchandise
The park advertised three spectator grandstands, each accommodating approximately 50 people. [4]
These facilities supported both recreational activities and organised tournament competition.
Nation Cup 2004
[edit]In December 2004, Xtion Paintball Park hosted Nation Cup 2004, an international tournament organised by Galactec and Xtion Paintball.
The event brought invited international teams to Malaysia and was subsequently described by Xtion as a pilot project for larger international paintball competitions. [3]
Nation Cup was an important milestone in the development of international tournament paintball in Malaysia.
The organisers used the event to demonstrate the feasibility of hosting overseas teams and to develop relationships with international players, referees and sponsors.
Plans for the following year's Asia Pacific Paintball Championship were announced during this period.
Asia Pacific Paintball Championship 2005
[edit]Xtion Paintball Park hosted the Asia Pacific Paintball Championship 2005, also promoted as the Asia Pacific Paintball Challenge.
According to the park's historical account, the championship attracted more than 80 teams from over ten countries.
The organisers also reported appearances by established American professional teams, including Dynasty, the Ironmen and Legacy. [3]
The championship received support from international paintball equipment manufacturers, Malaysian commercial sponsors and government agencies.
Television broadcaster TV3 produced a promotional advertisement for the event, which was subsequently preserved in Xtion's media archive. [3]
The championship helped establish Malaysia as a destination for international tournament paintball and contributed to the subsequent development of PALS and World Cup Asia.
Paintball World Cup Asia
[edit]Xtion Paintball Park was closely associated with the establishment of Paintball World Cup Asia.
The inaugural tournament was held from 8 to 10 December 2006 at the Bukit Jalil venue.
The event attracted Malaysian and international teams and became a major competition associated with the Paintball Asia League Series.
World Cup Asia continued to develop during the late 2000s, attracting teams from Asia, Oceania, Europe and other regions.
Later editions of the championship were held in Langkawi, Malaysia.
Although World Cup Asia moved to Langkawi, Xtion continued to support competitive teams preparing for the event.
In October 2011, the park announced that it would reproduce the official World Cup Asia field layout to approximately 99% accuracy, allowing teams to practise ahead of the Langkawi championship. [7]
Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit
[edit]Xtion Paintball Park was closely associated with the development of the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit.
The circuit provided a regular domestic competition structure for Malaysian paintball teams.
Xtion hosted multiple MPOC rounds and provided practice facilities for participating teams.
In June 2011, the park published results from the fourth round of the MPOC season, the Xtion Paintball Cup.
The event included four divisions, with Nemesis Legion winning Division 1, Simpsons winning Division 2, Grammaton Clerics winning Division 3 and Armada Shooter winning Division 4. [8]
In January 2012, Xtion hosted the opening round of that year's MPOC season. [9]
The circuit helped support the development of Malaysian tournament teams and provided a pathway into international competitions.
Paintball Asia League Series
[edit]Xtion Paintball Park played an important role in the early development of the Paintball Asia League Series.
The series emerged from international competitions organised in Malaysia during the mid-2000s and subsequently expanded to include events in other Asian countries.
Xtion's historical website described the park as the birthplace of PALS and MPOC. [2]
The venue served as a training centre for Malaysian teams competing in PALS events and hosted activities associated with the series.
Its international tournament experience helped establish relationships with overseas teams, sponsors, referees and event organisers.
Teams and player development
[edit]Xtion Paintball Park supported Malaysian competitive paintball teams through training facilities, discounted practice arrangements and assistance with international sponsorship contacts.
The park's historical website stated that it provided sponsored training rates to teams and helped connect players with international equipment manufacturers. [2]
Teams associated with the venue included Raskal Malaysia, Nemesis Legion and Xtioneers.
In July 2014, Xtion published a report celebrating Raskal Malaysia's victory at the Napshot Invitational Paintball Challenge.
The park also reported that Raskal had won the Singapore Paintball Series in March 2014 and the India National Paintball League Open in April of the same year. [10]
These achievements reflected the growing participation of Malaysian teams in international tournament paintball.
Other tournaments and events
[edit]Xtion Paintball Cup
[edit]Xtion organised its own tournaments in addition to hosting national and international competitions.
In April 2013, the park held the Xtion Paintball Cup as part of its tenth anniversary celebrations.
The event used a five-player tournament format and included competitive divisions, a prize ceremony and anniversary activities.
Team Killer Beez 2 won the tenth anniversary tournament. [6]
Energizer Night Strike 2011
[edit]In 2011, Xtion Paintball Park hosted the Energizer Night Strike, promoted by the venue as Asia's first night paintball tournament.
The event featured seven-minute speedball rounds played in darkness using ultraviolet lighting and fluorescent paintballs.
It was organised in association with Energizer Malaysia as part of a promotional campaign for the company's Energy Beam product range. [1]
The event demonstrated the use of paintball as both a competitive activity and a commercial promotional platform.
Media and television
[edit]Xtion Paintball Park appeared in Malaysian television programmes, promotional campaigns and media coverage.
The park's media archive documents the use of its facilities for television programmes and paintball demonstrations.
1 Peluru
[edit]In 2014, Xtion published information about 1 Peluru, a Malaysian paintball reality television programme produced for RTM/TVi.
The programme featured 16 teams competing across seven paintball challenges for a RM10,000 cash prize.
Xtion Paintball Park served as the official venue for episodes 1, 2, 5 and 6. [11]
The programme was an example of paintball's use in Malaysian television entertainment and helped introduce the activity to audiences beyond the established player community.
Other television appearances
[edit]Xtion's historical website also documented paintball-related appearances on Malaysian television channels including TV3, TV9 and 8TV.
The park participated in promotional roadshows, exhibitions and demonstrations intended to introduce paintball to new audiences. [2][3]
Government and institutional relationships
[edit]Xtion Paintball Park operated within the National Sports Complex and maintained relationships with Malaysian government agencies and sporting authorities.
Its historical website identified support or recognition from:
- Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia
- Ministry of Tourism Malaysia
- Sports Commissioner's Office
- Royal Malaysian Police
- National Sports Complex
- Visit Malaysia Year 2007 Secretariat
The park also stated that its international tournaments were recognised or sanctioned by organisations associated with Paintball Sports Promotions in the United States and the Millennium Series in Europe. [2]
These relationships were important to the development of organised paintball in Malaysia, particularly because paintball equipment and activities were subject to local regulatory requirements.
Management and operations
[edit]Historical contact information published by Xtion Paintball Park identified Rela Ria Sdn. Bhd. as the operating company associated with the venue. [5]
The park's published contact details listed Raja Anor Shah as general manager.
Earlier blog posts were signed by Redza, who also identified himself as general manager in 2011. [12]
The available sources do not conclusively establish the original founders, complete ownership history or subsequent management changes.
Later activity
[edit]Xtion Paintball Park continued operating during the early and mid-2010s.
Its website documented tournament activity, team training, recreational paintball and television productions through 2014.
In April 2016, the park published a notice concerning temporary interruptions to its online facilities while its website and email services were being updated.
A further announcement dated 6 October 2016 described changes to the park's domain and email addresses. [13]
These notices establish that the organisation maintained an online presence in 2016.
The exact date on which the original Bukit Jalil facility ceased operating, if applicable, has not been independently established from the available historical records.
Historical significance
[edit]Xtion Paintball Park was an important institution in the development of competitive paintball in Malaysia during the 2000s and early 2010s.
Established in 2003, the venue provided tournament infrastructure at a time when organised competitive paintball was expanding across Southeast Asia.
Its role in hosting Nation Cup 2004, the Asia Pacific Paintball Championship 2005 and the inaugural World Cup Asia in 2006 connected Malaysian paintball with international teams, professional players and tournament organisers.
The park also supported the development of the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit and the Paintball Asia League Series.
Beyond international tournaments, Xtion contributed to domestic player development through regular competitions, team training and recreational participation.
Its media activities, corporate events and television appearances helped promote paintball to a broader Malaysian audience.
The park's history reflects the wider development of Malaysia as an important centre for international tournament paintball in Asia.
