History

[edit]

Origins

[edit]

Xtioneers developed within Malaysia's growing tournament paintball community during the 2000s.

The team was associated with Xtion Paintball Park, a tournament facility at the National Xtreme Sports Park in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

Xtion Paintball Park was established in 2003 and officially launched on 12 July 2005. It became a venue for the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit, Paintball Asia League Series and international tournaments.[6]

The precise founding date of Xtioneers has not been established.

The team's documented competitive history extends to at least January 2008.

2008 season

[edit]

Xtioneer finished third in the Pendekar Division at the Pengerang Open, held on 19–20 January 2008 at Stadium Bandar Penawar in Johor.

Raskal won the division, while Xtioneer placed ahead of Zealous.

Contemporary sources disagree about the runner-up, with one listing Flanker and another listing Nemesis.[7][8]

Later in 2008, Xtioneer competed at the Paintball World Cup Asia in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

The team finished third in Division 1, behind Thailand's Infernal and Malaysia's MacDev Ronin.

Australia's SWAT finished fourth.[8]

The World Cup Asia result established Xtioneer among the leading Malaysian teams in international competition during that period.

2010 season

[edit]

By 2010, Xtioneers was operating two competitive squads.

The main team, Xtioneer I, competed in Division 1, while Xtioneer II competed in Division 2 of the Paintball Asia League Series.

Both squads travelled to the Philippines for the second round of the 2010 PALS season, held on 21–22 August at Clark Field.

Team manager Paul Lam stated that the squads had undertaken three weeks of preparation before the event.[1]

The competition followed the opening PALS round in Pattaya, Thailand, earlier that year.

Xtioneers II Philippines victory

[edit]

Xtioneers II won Division 2 at the 2010 United Paintballers of the Philippines International Championships, which formed part of the PALS season.

The team defeated fellow Malaysian side Sarawak Waxers in the semifinals before defeating Global Pinoy 1 of the Philippines 2–0 in the final.

The Star reported that the victory made Xtioneers II the first Malaysian team to win a PALS Division 2 event outside Malaysia.[2]

The squad was captained by Kevin Wong, with Raja Anor serving as team manager.

2011 season

[edit]

Xtioneers continued competing in the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit.

At the fourth round of the 2011 MPOC, held at Xtion Paintball Park in Kuala Lumpur, the team finished third in Division 1.

Nemesis Legion won the event, followed by MacDev Ronin, Xtioneers and Xfox.[9]

2012 World Cup Asia

[edit]

Xtioneer competed in Division 1 at the 2012 Paintball World Cup Asia in Langkawi.

The tournament featured 170 teams from 33 countries, according to Malaysian news reporting.

Xtioneer reached the third-place playoff but lost 3–2 to fellow Malaysian team Nemesis Legion.

Thailand's Infernal won the championship, defeating Australia's STK.[10]

The result placed Xtioneer fourth in Division 1.

2013 PALS championship

[edit]

The 2013 season was one of Xtioneers' most successful documented competitive periods.

The team competed in Division 1 at multiple rounds of the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit and Paintball Asia League Series.

At the second PALS leg, held in conjunction with the Malaysian Open and MPOC third round on 24–26 May, Xtioneer finished second among ten teams.

At the 2013 NAZA World Cup Asia in Langkawi, the team finished fourth among fourteen Division 1 competitors.[3]

The tournament's final standings were:

Position Team Country
1st Johannesburg Dynamix South Africa
2nd Raskal Malaysia Malaysia
3rd Datis Iran
4th Xtioneer Malaysia

Despite finishing fourth at World Cup Asia, Xtioneers won the overall 2013 PALS Division 1 season championship.

The championship was confirmed in a contemporary results report published by Social Paintball.[4]

The overall series championship and the individual World Cup Asia placing are separate results.

2014 season

[edit]

Xtioneer competed at the opening round of the 2014 PALS season in Bangkok, Thailand, held on 28–30 March.

The team finished second among seven Division 1 X-Ball competitors.[3]

At the 2014 Paintball World Cup Asia, held on 7–9 November, Xtioneer finished ninth among ten Division 1 teams.

Its tournament record included matches against Raskal Malaysia, STK, Beez Waxers, Nemesis Legion and other international teams.[11]

Xtioneer competed at the Sharjah Open Paintball Championship in the United Arab Emirates on 19–20 March 2015.

The team won the Open Division, finishing first among nine teams.[3]

[edit]

Xtioneer competed at PALS Bangkok on 27–29 March, finishing seventh among eight Division 1 teams.

At the Singapore leg of PALS, held on 5–7 June, the team finished seventh among nine Division 1 teams.

World Cup Asia, Langkawi

[edit]

Xtioneers competed at the 2015 Paintball World Cup Asia in Langkawi from 30 October to 1 November.

The team finished sixth among sixteen Division 1 X-Ball competitors.[3]

Tournament records document victories over several international teams, including Kingdom Paintball, Poison Ivy, Datis and Reaper AllStars.[12]

The result was one of the team's last documented top-ten finishes at World Cup Asia.

2016 season

[edit]

Xtioneers continued competing in Division 1 during 2016.

The team entered the opening PALS round in March and several Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit events.

At the MPOC finals on 6–7 August, Xtioneers finished sixth among six teams in the Race to 4 division.

At World Cup Asia in Kuala Lumpur on 21–23 October, the team finished sixth among eleven Division 1 X-Ball competitors.[3]

2017 registration

[edit]

The team's PBLeagues profile records an entry for the first round of the 2017 Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit, held on 14–15 January.

The entry lists Xtioneers in the Open Division, Race to 3 format.

No final placing is recorded.[3]

This is the latest tournament registration currently identified in the team's historical PBLeagues record.

The team's subsequent competitive activity and eventual status have not been established.

Xtioneers II

[edit]

Xtioneers II was a second competitive squad associated with the Xtioneers organisation.

The team competed in Division 2 of the Paintball Asia League Series during 2010.

Contemporary reporting described Xtioneers I and Xtioneers II as squads managed within the same team organisation.[1]

2010 PALS Philippines

[edit]

Xtioneers II won Division 2 at the 2010 PALS Philippines event.

The squad won five of its six preliminary matches before advancing through the elimination rounds.

It defeated Sarawak Waxers in the semifinals and Global Pinoy 1 by 2–0 in the final.

The victory was reported by The Star as the first PALS Division 2 tournament victory outside Malaysia by a Malaysian team.[2]

Team organisation

[edit]

Management

[edit]

Paul Lam was identified as the manager of the Xtioneers organisation in August 2010.

Contemporary reporting described him overseeing the preparation of Xtioneer I and Xtioneer II for the Philippines round of PALS.[1]

Raja Anor Shah was identified as manager of the Xtioneers II squad during its Division 2 championship victory.[2]

The team's original founders and subsequent management structure have not yet been established.

Associated facility

[edit]

Xtioneers was associated with Xtion Paintball Park in Kuala Lumpur.

The facility was an important tournament venue in Malaysia and hosted MPOC and PALS competitions.

Its development provided opportunities for Malaysian teams to train and compete using international tournament formats.

The facility and team should be treated as distinct subjects, as the available evidence does not fully establish the team's legal ownership or organisational structure.

Sponsors and equipment

[edit]

The team's complete sponsorship history has not yet been reconstructed.

Its involvement with Xtion Paintball Park is documented, but this should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of a formal commercial sponsorship agreement.

Historical team photographs and tournament reports may provide further information about marker manufacturers, clothing suppliers and other sponsors.

Legacy

[edit]

Xtioneers was among the Malaysian teams competing internationally during the expansion of tournament paintball in Southeast Asia.

Its competitive history includes podium finishes in Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, as well as a championship victory in the United Arab Emirates.

The organisation's second squad, Xtioneers II, provided a pathway for Division 2 competition and achieved an international title in 2010.

The main team's 2013 PALS Division 1 season championship was a notable achievement during the development of Malaysian tournament paintball.

Xtioneers' tournament record illustrates the growth of Malaysian participation in international paintball competitions during the late 2000s and 2010s.
