Competition included professional RaceTo-7, divisional RaceTo-5 and RaceTo-4, and five-player RaceTo-2.[1][2][3]

Galveston was a new location for PSP's season-opening tournament. Chicago moved to CPX Sports, which had hosted the NPPL Chicago Open earlier in the year. The third round took place at Top Gun Paintball in New Jersey, before World Cup returned to Fantasy of Flight in Florida.[4][5][6][7]

Chicago storm disruption

[edit]

A severe storm struck the Chicago area shortly before the tournament, damaging field-netting supports and team pit tents. Staff and volunteers rebuilt the site, and the schedule was reorganised to operate on five fields instead of six. The planned Tactical RaceTo-2 division was cancelled.[5]

Competition formats

[edit]

Professional teams competed in RaceTo-7. Divisions 1 and 2 used RaceTo-5, while Divisions 3 and 4 used RaceTo-4. Separate five-player RaceTo-2 competitions were held for Divisions 3 and 4.[3][4][5][6]

At Galveston, the published match limits were 20 minutes for professional RaceTo-7, 15 minutes for RaceTo-5 and 12 minutes for RaceTo-4.[3]

Chicago also included an open pump RaceTo-2 competition. World Cup added Masters, Division 2 RaceTo-2 and Division 5 RaceTo-2 competitions.[2][5][8]

Professional competition

[edit]

Dynasty won the opening tournament by defeating Boston Red Legion 7–2. The same teams met in the Chicago final, where Boston equalised with two seconds remaining before winning in sudden-death overtime.[4][5]

Tampa Bay Damage defeated Dynasty in the New Jersey final and subsequently won World Cup ahead of Boston Red Legion.[6][8]
