2011 PSP Chicago Open

From WikiPaintball

The 2011 PSP Chicago Open was the second event of the 2011 Paintball Sports Promotions season. It took place from 23–26 June 2011 at CPX Sports, 2903 Schweitzer Road, Joliet, Illinois. Boston Red Legion won the professional competition, defeating San Diego Dynasty in overtime. [1][2][3]

Venue and storm disruption

[edit]

PSP used CPX Sports, which had hosted the 2011 NPPL Chicago Open the previous month. [2]

A severe storm struck before the tournament, damaging field netting supports and team pit tents. Staff and volunteers rebuilt the site, and competition was reorganised to use five fields instead of the planned six. The Tactical RaceTo-2 division was cancelled. [2]

Professional competition

[edit]

Ten teams contested professional RaceTo-7. Boston Red Legion defeated Edmonton Impact 5–2 in the semi-finals, while Dynasty beat the Los Angeles Ironmen 7–2. [2]

In the final, Boston recovered from a 5–2 deficit. Justin Rabackoff hung the flag with two seconds remaining to level the match at 5–5. Boston won the deciding overtime point to defeat Dynasty 6–5. [2][4]

Edmonton Impact finished third, ahead of the Los Angeles Ironmen. [3]
