Johor Paintball Association
Johor Paintball Association was a Malaysian state-level paintball association representing the state of Johor in the development of organised paintball.
The association is documented in February 2010 through its participation in the formation of the Malaysian Paintball Federation (MPBF). Tuan Haji Amin bin Othman was named as its representative in the original proposed interim committee, while Afendi Abdullah subsequently represented the association as a vice president of the federation's selected provisional steering committee.[1]
The association's founding date, complete leadership history, membership and subsequent activities have not yet been independently established.

History
[edit]Background
[edit]During the 2000s, paintball developed in Malaysia through commercial playing facilities, recreational clubs, tournament teams and regional competitions.
Johor, located in southern Peninsular Malaysia, was among the states represented in efforts to establish a national paintball governing body.
The Johor Paintball Association was identified as a state association during the February 2010 formation process for the Malaysian Paintball Federation.[1]
The circumstances of the association's original establishment, including its founders, registration date and early activities, have not yet been documented.
Malaysian Paintball Federation formation
[edit]In February 2010, Malaysian paintball organisers initiated a formal process to establish a national federation representing the sport.
The proposed federation was intended to bring together state associations, paintball clubs, referees, equipment suppliers, tournament organisers and commercial field operators.
Its objectives included formal sporting recognition, clearer regulations governing paintball equipment, common safety standards and grassroots development programmes.
A public hearing was held on 25 February 2010 at the National Sports Institute in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.
The hearing was organised in connection with Malaysia's Sports Commissioner's Office.
The federation's organisers invited representatives of paintball organisations from across Malaysia to participate.[1]
Original proposed representative
[edit]Before the public hearing, Paul WY Lam prepared a proposed interim committee consisting of representatives from different sectors of the Malaysian paintball community.
The proposal included representatives of state paintball associations alongside equipment suppliers, tournament promoters, referees and field operators.
The Johor Paintball Association's nominated representative was Tuan Haji Amin bin Othman.[1]
The proposed committee list was submitted to the Sports Commissioner's Office on 25 February 2010.
The announcement stated that the proposed appointments were subject to the acceptance of the invited individuals.
Consequently, Amin bin Othman's inclusion establishes his nomination as the association's representative but does not demonstrate that he subsequently served on the selected federation committee.
Afendi Abdullah and the provisional committee
[edit]Following the public hearing, the federation organisers announced the membership of a provisional steering committee.
The announcement was published by Allan Phang on 27 February 2010.[1]
Afendi Abdullah, identified as representing the Johor Paintball Association, was selected as one of the federation's three vice presidents.
The other vice presidents were Dean CK Lau of Tanamerah Paintball Club and Mohd. Reza Yusof of Xtion Paintball Club.
The provisional committee was headed by Tn. Hj. Amirul of CMX Paintball Club as president, with Paul WY Lam serving as deputy president.
Afendi's appointment provided the Johor Paintball Association with representation among the provisional federation's principal officeholders.
The available source does not identify Afendi's formal office within the Johor Paintball Association itself.
He should therefore not be described as the association's president without additional evidence.
Role in Malaysian paintball
[edit]State-level representation
[edit]The Johor Paintball Association was one of the state organisations identified in the 2010 national federation formation process.
The proposed federation structure envisaged representation from Malaysia's state paintball associations alongside participants from the commercial paintball industry.
The organisers intended to establish a representative structure through which state associations and clubs could participate in national sporting administration.[1]
The Johor Paintball Association's involvement is documented through the nomination of Tuan Haji Amin bin Othman and the subsequent selection of Afendi Abdullah as a federation vice president.
The available sources do not establish the association's membership numbers, affiliated clubs or internal governance structure.
National federation representation
[edit]The Johor Paintball Association had a documented role in both stages of the February 2010 federation committee process.
The original proposed committee named Tuan Haji Amin bin Othman.
The subsequently selected provisional committee named Afendi Abdullah as a vice president.[1]
These records demonstrate continued representation of the Johor Paintball Association during the formation process, although the individual representative changed.
The surviving documents do not explain the reason for the change.
The appointment of Afendi Abdullah to a vice-presidential position was one of the association's most clearly documented contributions to national paintball administration.
Relationship with JB Paintball Association
[edit]The provisional federation committee also included Muhammad Nur Fadly Ismail, identified as representing the JB Paintball Association.[1]
The abbreviation "JB" most likely refers to Johor Bahru (also spelled Johor Baru), the capital city of Johor state.
The original 2010 committee announcement listed JB Paintball Association separately from the Johor Paintball Association, suggesting that they were distinct organisations representing different geographical levels.
Afendi Abdullah represented the Johor Paintball Association, while Muhammad Nur Fadly Ismail represented JB Paintball Association.
Although JB Paintball Association may have operated as a city-level organisation within Johor, its formal relationship with the state association has not yet been established.
The two organisations should therefore be treated as distinct historical entities unless further documentary evidence establishes a parent–affiliate relationship or another formal connection.
Documented representatives
[edit]| Name | Documented role | Year | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuan Haji Amin bin Othman | Proposed representative in the Malaysian Paintball Federation interim committee | 2010 | Federation formation records [1] |
| Afendi Abdullah | Representative of Johor Paintball Association; vice president of the selected federation provisional committee | 2010 | Federation formation records [1] |
Neither individual's formal position within the Johor Paintball Association has been independently established.
Relationship with other paintball organisations
[edit]Malaysian Paintball Federation
[edit]The Malaysian Paintball Federation was the principal national administrative initiative in which the Johor Paintball Association is documented as participating.
The proposed federation sought to address issues affecting the Malaysian paintball community, including the legal status of paintball markers, sporting recognition, safety guidelines and grassroots development.
The Johor Paintball Association was represented in the provisional committee through Afendi Abdullah.
However, the available evidence does not establish whether the association subsequently became a formally registered member of the completed federation.
Other state associations
[edit]The original February 2010 committee proposal included representatives of several other state and regional organisations, including:
- Selangor Paintball Association
- Kuala Lumpur Paintball Association
- Malacca Paintball Association
- Sabah Paintball Association
- Sarawak Paintball Association
- Kedah Paintball Association
- Labuan Paintball Association
The Johor Paintball Association participated in the same proposed national framework as these organisations.
No separate bilateral agreements or formal relationships between the associations have yet been established.
Later history
[edit]The association's activities following the February 2010 federation formation process have not yet been independently documented.
Its participation in later tournaments, development programmes, equipment regulation discussions or other sporting activities remains unverified.
The association's current registration and operating status are also unknown.
The absence of later public records does not establish that the organisation was dissolved.
Historical significance
[edit]The Johor Paintball Association forms part of the documented history of efforts to establish formal national paintball governance in Malaysia.
Its involvement in the February 2010 federation formation process is notable because it was represented in both the original proposed committee and the subsequently selected provisional committee.
The original proposal named Tuan Haji Amin bin Othman, while the selected committee appointed Afendi Abdullah as a vice president.
This provides evidence of the association's participation at a senior level in the federation's early organisational development.
The association's history also illustrates the presence of state-level paintball organisations during a period when Malaysian tournament organisers, clubs and equipment businesses were seeking a unified national representative structure.
