Malacca Paintball Association

From WikiPaintball

Malacca Paintball Association, also known as the Melaka Paintball Association, was a Malaysian state-level paintball association associated with the development of organised paintball in the state of Malacca (Melaka).

The association is documented in February 2010 through its involvement in the formation of the Malaysian Paintball Federation. The original proposed interim committee named Zulhassan bin Maslan as the association's representative, while the subsequently selected provisional steering committee included Hassan Maslan as a representative of the Melaka Paintball Association.[1]

The available records do not establish whether these two names refer to the same individual.

The association's founding date, complete leadership history, membership and subsequent activities have not yet been independently established.

History

[edit]

Background

[edit]

During the 2000s, organised paintball developed across Malaysia through recreational clubs, commercial playing facilities, tournament teams and regional competitions.

The state of Malacca, officially known as Melaka in Malay, was among the states represented in efforts to establish a national governing body for paintball.

The Malacca Paintball Association was identified as a state association during the February 2010 formation process for the Malaysian Paintball Federation.[1]

The circumstances of the association's establishment, including its founders, registration date and early activities, have not yet been documented.

Malaysian Paintball Federation formation

[edit]

In February 2010, Malaysian paintball organisers initiated a formal process to establish a national federation representing the sport.

The proposed federation was intended to bring together state paintball associations, clubs, referees, equipment suppliers, tournament organisers and commercial field operators.

Its objectives included formal sporting recognition, clearer regulations governing paintball equipment, common safety standards and grassroots development programmes.

A public hearing was held on 25 February 2010 at the National Sports Institute in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

The hearing was organised in connection with Malaysia's Sports Commissioner's Office.

Representatives of paintball organisations from across Malaysia were invited to participate.[1]

Original proposed representative

[edit]

Before the public hearing, Paul WY Lam prepared a proposed interim committee representing different sectors of the Malaysian paintball community.

The proposal included representatives of state paintball associations alongside equipment suppliers, tournament promoters, referees and field operators.

The Malacca Paintball Association's nominated representative was Zulhassan bin Maslan.[1]

The proposed committee list was submitted to the Sports Commissioner's Office on 25 February 2010.

The announcement stated that proposed appointments were subject to the acceptance of the invited individuals.

Consequently, Zulhassan bin Maslan's inclusion establishes his nomination as the association's representative but does not demonstrate that he subsequently served on the selected federation committee.

Hassan Maslan and the provisional committee

[edit]

Following the public hearing, the federation organisers announced the membership of a provisional steering committee.

The announcement was published by Allan Phang on 27 February 2010.[1]

Hassan Maslan, identified as representing the Melaka Paintball Association, was included among the committee's additional members.

The provisional committee was headed by Tn. Hj. Amirul of CMX Paintball Club as president, with Paul WY Lam serving as deputy president.

Hassan Maslan was not identified as one of the committee's principal officeholders.

His inclusion nevertheless established the association's representation within the selected provisional committee.

The available records do not identify Hassan's formal position within the Melaka Paintball Association.

Name variation

[edit]

The original proposed committee used the name Zulhassan bin Maslan, while the selected provisional committee used Hassan Maslan.

Both names were associated with the Malacca or Melaka Paintball Association.

The similarity between the names and their association with the same organisation suggests that they may refer to the same individual.

However, no independent source has yet been identified confirming this interpretation.

For historical accuracy, the two names should be preserved as recorded in the original documents until their identity can be established.

Role in Malaysian paintball

[edit]

State-level representation

[edit]

The Malacca Paintball Association was one of the state organisations identified during the 2010 national federation formation process.

The proposed federation structure envisaged representation from Malaysia's state paintball associations alongside participants from the commercial paintball industry.

The organisers intended to establish a representative structure through which state associations and clubs could participate in national sporting administration.[1]

The association's involvement is documented through the original nomination of Zulhassan bin Maslan and the subsequent inclusion of Hassan Maslan in the selected provisional committee.

The available sources do not establish the association's membership numbers, affiliated clubs or internal governance structure.

National federation representation

[edit]

The Malacca Paintball Association appeared in both stages of the February 2010 federation committee process.

The original proposed committee named Zulhassan bin Maslan.

The subsequently selected provisional committee named Hassan Maslan.[1]

These records demonstrate representation of the association during the federation formation process.

However, the surviving documents do not explain the difference between the two names.

The association's involvement in the provisional committee is its principal independently documented contribution to national paintball administration.

Relationship with local Melaka associations

[edit]

The selected provisional federation committee also included representatives of paintball associations based in local administrative areas of Melaka.

These included:

  • Jasin Paintball Association — represented by Mohd Izuan Othman
  • Alor Gajah Paintball Association — represented by Shaiful Nizam Abd Karim
  • Melaka Tengah Paintball Association — represented by Idilhan Ibrahim

All three representatives were listed separately from Hassan Maslan of the Melaka Paintball Association.[1]

Jasin, Alor Gajah and Melaka Tengah are districts within the state of Melaka.

The committee records therefore indicate the presence of both a state-level association and organisations identified with individual districts.

However, the original announcement does not establish whether the district associations were formally affiliated with the state association.

They should be treated as distinct historical organisations unless further documentary evidence establishes a parent–affiliate relationship.

Documented representatives

[edit]
Name Documented role Year Source
Zulhassan bin Maslan Proposed representative of Malacca Paintball Association in the federation interim committee 2010 Federation formation records [1]
Hassan Maslan Representative of Melaka Paintball Association in the selected federation provisional committee 2010 Federation formation records [1]

The two entries may refer to the same individual, but this has not been independently confirmed.

Neither individual's formal position within the association has been established.

Relationship with other paintball organisations

[edit]

Malaysian Paintball Federation

[edit]

The Malaysian Paintball Federation was the principal national administrative initiative in which the Malacca Paintball Association is documented as participating.

The proposed federation sought to address issues affecting Malaysian paintball, including the legal status of paintball markers, sporting recognition, safety guidelines and grassroots development.

The association was represented in the selected provisional committee through Hassan Maslan.

However, the available evidence does not establish whether it subsequently became a formally registered member of a completed national federation.

Other state associations

[edit]

The original February 2010 committee proposal included representatives of several other state and regional organisations, including:

The Malacca Paintball Association participated in the same proposed national framework as these organisations.

No separate bilateral agreements or formal relationships between the associations have yet been established.

Later history

[edit]

The association's activities following the February 2010 federation formation process have not yet been independently documented.

Its participation in later tournaments, development programmes, equipment regulation discussions or other sporting activities remains unverified.

The association's current registration and operating status are also unknown.

The absence of later public records does not establish that the organisation was dissolved.

Historical significance

[edit]

The Malacca Paintball Association forms part of the documented history of efforts to establish formal national paintball governance in Malaysia.

Its involvement in the February 2010 federation formation process is notable because it appeared in both the original proposed committee and the subsequently selected provisional committee.

The original proposal named Zulhassan bin Maslan, while the selected committee included Hassan Maslan.

The committee records also identified separate associations representing Jasin, Alor Gajah and Melaka Tengah.

These records provide evidence of multiple paintball organisations operating or seeking representation within Melaka during the development of Malaysia's national paintball administration.

The association's history illustrates the role of state and local paintball organisations in efforts to establish a unified national representative structure.
