Nemisis was a New Zealand tournament paintball team that competed under the earlier names Cutthroats and Cut-throats during 2006. The players adopted the name Nemisis before the 2007 Northland Open.[1][2]

As Cut-throats, the team finished ninth in Division 2 of the 2006 Super 5s championship. Competing as Nemisis in 2007, it finished second in the Amateur division of the Northland Open and was second in the published interim Super 5s Division 2 standings after six rounds.[1][3][4]

History

[edit]

Cut-throats

[edit]

Cut-throats began competing during the 2006 season. A contemporary Super 5s announcement described both Cut-throats and Sinista as teams that had started that year and had recorded game victories against established sides including XXX and Legion.[2]

The team finished ninth in Division 2 of the 2006 Super 5s with 2,239 championship points. At the final round on 3 December, Cutthroats placed ninth in the combined classification with 234 points.[1]

Change to Nemisis

[edit]

The team changed its name before the 2007 Northland Open. In the event's January entry discussion, a team member asked the organiser to replace Cut-throats with NEMISIS, explaining that the players had agreed upon the new name. The organiser's subsequent entry list described the side as Nemisis formerly cut-throats.[3]

The Northland Open was held at A Paintball Adventure in Papakura on 4 February 2007. Nemisis finished second in the Amateur division behind Sinista. The published results used the combined form Nemisis / Cut-throats, reflecting the recent name change.[3][4]

2007 Super 5s

[edit]

Nemisis competed in Division 2 of the 2007 Super 5s. The team appeared in all six recovered rounds between February and August.[5][6][7][8][9][10]

Its highest overall round placing was second in August, when it scored 532 points behind Legion. Nemisis also placed fourth overall in March and sixth in April.[6][7][10]

After the August round, Nemisis was second in the published interim Division 2 standings with 2,149 points, behind Sinista.[10] The six published monthly scores total a different figure, and the surviving reports do not explain the discrepancy. The 2,149-point figure is therefore retained as the organiser's published interim total rather than a recalculated result.

Later rounds were announced, but surviving results have not established the team's final 2007 championship position.

Team identity and spelling

[edit]

The forms Cutthroats and Cut-throats refer to the team's earlier identity. Contemporary January 2007 posts explicitly document the players' change to Nemisis.[2][3]

The spelling Nemisis appears in the team's own name-change post, the Northland Open entry list and results, and the 2007 Super 5s records.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] A 2008 administrative list used the conventional spelling Nemesis, but does not establish that the team formally changed or corrected its name.[11]

The New Zealand team should not be confused with unrelated overseas teams named Nemesis.
