Paintball career

[edit]

Tag n' Release

[edit]

Mumby was the manager of Tag n' Release, a Rotorua-based tournament paintball team established in March 2000.

The team's April 2001 profile identified Gary Dykes as captain, Mumby as manager, Brendon Charles as treasurer and Russell "Dangermouse" Clement as its information contact and historian.[1]

Tag n' Release competed in several New Zealand tournaments during 2000, including Actions Mayhem, the Wellington Cup and the New Zealand Paintball Nationals.

The team won the Second Division championship at the 2000 Nationals and subsequently appeared in the independent Valhalla national rankings.[1]

Rotorua Invitational

[edit]

Mumby was involved in organising the Rotorua Invitational, a tournament initiative established by Tag n' Release and the Rotorua Paintball Club.

The inaugural competition took place on 3 December 2000 at Blue Lake Reserve, Rotorua.

Four teams participated: Katipo, Tag n' Release, Havoc and DamNatives. Katipo won the tournament.[2]

The competition was intended to encourage tournament participation and provide opportunities for teams from different regions to compete.

Mumby's documented organisational involvement included contacting accommodation providers about discounts for visiting players as part of plans to expand the event.[2]

Team Kiwi (2004)

[edit]

In 2004, Mumby travelled to Malaysia as a member of Team Kiwi, a New Zealand team assembled for international competition at Xtion Paintball in Kuala Lumpur.

The reported playing roster included Kyn Jackson, Brendon Charles, Brian Thornley, Martin Dannefaerd and Mumby.

Team Kiwi finished fifth, with its elimination following a match against Mana Wave.[3]

Asia Pacific Paintball Championship (2005)

[edit]

Mumby returned to Malaysia in 2005 as part of another Team Kiwi lineup competing at the Asia Pacific Paintball Championship.

The tournament began on 30 September 2005 at Xtion Paintball in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

The reported lineup included Mumby, Michael Earley, Gavin Mumby and Jason Newport.[4]

The team's final placing has not been independently confirmed.

Saints

[edit]

In later years, Mumby was associated with the New Zealand tournament team Saints.

His dates of participation and individual tournament results have not yet been established from contemporary records.[4]

Later Team Kiwi activity

[edit]

Mumby was reportedly associated with another lineup using the Team Kiwi name during the early 2010s.

This activity was also associated with Jason Newport and the period when the New Zealand Paintball Players League held events at Lock N Load Paintball in Auckland.

Possible participation in Australian tournaments has been reported, but specific event records remain unverified.[4]
