Red Alert (New Zealand Paintball Team)
Red Alert was a New Zealand tournament paintball team associated with Red Alert Paintball and Red Alert Paintball Club in Auckland. The team is documented at the 1997 and 1998 New Zealand Paintball Nationals, while a related second or sister team competed as DOA.[1][2][3]
The team, incorporated club and commercial field were related but were not interchangeable entities. Surviving records establish that the Red Alert name continued through the field and club after the team's last verified tournament result, but do not confirm that the tournament team remained active after 1998.[4][5]
Tournament history
[edit]1997
[edit]Red Alert competed in Division Two at the 1997 New Zealand Paintball Nationals, held at Actions Paintball Sports Arena in Te Atatū on 25–26 October. It finished tenth overall and sixth in Division Two with 370 points.[1]
The retrospectively compiled 1997 Valhalla National Rankings placed Red Alert tenth with a ranking score of 34.[6]
1998
[edit]At the 1998 New Zealand Paintball Nationals, held at Actions in Te Atatū on 24–25 October, Red Alert finished fourteenth with 121 points.[2] DOA also competed at the event and was explicitly described in the report as Red Alert's second team.[2]
The 1998 Valhalla National Rankings placed Red Alert eighteenth with a score of 9.[6] This is the latest confirmed tournament result for the Red Alert team identified in the inspected sources.
Red Alert Paintball and ownership
[edit]A contemporary Auckland team directory associated Red Alert and DOA with Red Alert Paintball at Ararimu and described the teams as sisters.[3] An undated player profile identifies Lance Potter as the owner of Red Alert Paintball.[4]
In a forum announcement posted on 3 February 2002, Tim stated that Lance had sold Red Alert Paintball to Matt Storey, Gavin Harrison and himself. He reported that a second field had been built, a third was under construction and a fourth was being designed. Suggestions for night games and a tournament series were proposals rather than evidence that those events occurred.[5]
Red Alert supplied food at the Combat Zone 3-Man tournament on 27 January 2002.[7] The report does not identify whether this support was provided by the business, club or former tournament team, and it is not treated as a Red Alert playing entry.
Red Alert Paintball Games Limited was registered on 23 July 2002, with Gavin John Harrison recorded as a director.[8] The company record supports Harrison's later involvement with the business but does not establish continued operation of the 1990s tournament team.
Red Alert Paintball Club
[edit]Red Alert Paintball Club existed as an incorporated society. The New Zealand Gazette recorded the formal dissolution of Red Alert Paintball Club Inc. on 14 January 2008 after the Registrar of Incorporated Societies was satisfied that it was no longer carrying on operations.[9]
The surviving official notice confirms the club's incorporated status and dissolution, but does not state when it was incorporated, identify its officers or document its relationship with particular tournament rosters. No contemporary public record confirming reported community-gaming funding for club equipment has been recovered.
