DOA (New Zealand Paintball Team)
DOA was a New Zealand tournament paintball team associated with Red Alert Paintball in Auckland. Contemporary sources describe DOA as Red Alert's second or sister team and document it competing from 1998 to 2000.[1][2]
The available sources use only the initials DOA and do not provide an expansion. No verified playing roster has been recovered.
History
[edit]1998
[edit]A contemporary Auckland team directory states that DOA began tournament competition at the 1998 New Zealand Paintball Nationals. This records its first documented tournament appearance, not necessarily the date on which the team was formed.[1]
At the 1998 New Zealand Paintball Nationals, DOA finished thirteenth with 141 points. The tournament report explicitly described it as Red Alert's second team.[2] The retrospectively compiled 1998 Valhalla National Rankings placed DOA seventeenth with a ranking score of 11.[3]
1999
[edit]On 6 June 1999, DOA competed in a twelve-team, five-player tournament at Actions Paintball. It progressed into the six-team Secondary competition and finished fourth in that classification, behind Vipers, Ravens and Assault Korps. DOA also received the event's sportsmanship award.[4]
The 1999 Valhalla National Rankings placed DOA nineteenth with a score of 25.[3]
2000
[edit]DOA was one of ten teams documented at the South Pacific Championships at Thunderball Adventure Games in Wellington on 22–23 April 2000. The surviving team report confirms its participation but does not provide DOA's placing.[5]
At the Mayhem Queen's Birthday tournament at Actions Paintball Sports Arena on 4 June, DOA reached the Second Division final. The surviving report names all six divisional finalists but does not provide a complete finishing order.[6]
DOA entered the Second Division of the 2000 New Zealand Paintball Nationals at Actions Paintball in Swanson on 21–22 October. It recorded 395 preliminary points and one maximum-score game but did not advance to the four-team divisional final.[7]
The 2000 Valhalla National Rankings placed DOA nineteenth with a ranking score of 58.[3] This is the latest confirmed DOA competition record identified in the inspected contemporary sources. Later records using the same initials have not been linked to the Red Alert-associated team by a roster or contemporary continuity statement.

Relationship with Red Alert
[edit]The 1998 Nationals report calls DOA Red Alert's second team, while a contemporary Auckland team directory describes the two as sister teams.[1][2] These sources establish an organisational relationship during the team's early competition history. They do not provide a shared roster or establish that the names were interchangeable; Red Alert and DOA are therefore retained as separate team entries.
