Paint Contractors (New Zealand Paintball Team)

From WikiPaintball

Paint Contractors was a New Zealand tournament paintball team from Whangārei, Northland. The team is documented in national and regional competition from 1997 to 2000. It won the 1999 New Zealand Paintball Nationals and the Division One competition at 2000 Actions Mayhem, and was runner-up at both the 1998 New Zealand Paintball Nationals and 1998 Northland Open.[2][5][7][9]

Paint Contractors appeared in each annual Valhalla National Ranking from 1997 through 2000. These retrospective rankings placed the team fourth in 1997, fourth in 1998, second in 1999 and fourth in 2000.[1]

1999 championship season

[edit]

Paint Contractors finished fourth at the 1999 Auckland Easter tournament with 1,310 points.[7] It also finished fourth overall and in Division One at the Northland Open, scoring 423 points. The tournament report records wins over Saints and Black Dragon.[8]

At the Actions Queen's Birthday tournament, Paint Contractors finished third in Division One. The related Whangārei entry Assault Korps won Division Two; the surviving report does not establish whether the two entries shared players or management.[9]

Paint Contractors won the 1999 New Zealand Paintball Nationals with 1,045 points, ahead of Saints Gold on 1,025 and Phantom Purple on 820. The contemporary account records that Paint Contractors defeated Saints Gold in under one minute during the second day and also defeated Saints Grey. It identifies the team's captain only as Brent.[10]

The Valhalla National Rankings placed Paint Contractors second for the 1999 season, with a score of 80.[1]

2000 season

[edit]

Paint Contractors won Division One at the 2000 Actions Mayhem tournament after finishing second in the preliminary stage. Assault Korps won Division Two at the same event.[11]

The team did not compete at the 2000 Northland Open. A contemporary report states that the event was organised with Brent of Strategy Tag and that Paint Contractors supplied marshals.[12]

Paint Contractors was one of four finalists at the 2000 South Pacific Championships, alongside Saints, House Steiner and Phoenix. The surviving Phoenix report establishes that Phoenix placed fourth but does not provide a complete order for the other three finalists.[13]

Paint Contractors finished fourth in the 2000 Valhalla National Rankings, with a score of 82.[1] The 2000 records are the latest confirmed competitive appearances identified in the inspected sources. They do not establish when the team ceased operating.

Relationship with Crisis Paintball Northland

[edit]

Paint Contractors and Team Crisis were different but related Northland teams. They should not be treated as alternative names for a single team.

A contemporary Phoenix account of the 2000 New Zealand Paintball Nationals described Crisis as “effectively Paint Contractors”.[14] This wording documents a perceived connection at that tournament, but it does not establish that Crisis was a renamed Paint Contractors entry or identify the precise player, organisational or field relationship between them. Crisis also has its own documented tournament identity and results, including appearances before and after 2000.[12][14]
