History

[edit]

Establishment

[edit]

Cyberjaya Paintball Park was developed at Kelab Komuniti Taman Tasik Cyberjaya in Selangor.

The project was supported by the Sepang Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Sepang) and Cyberview, the organisation associated with the development of Cyberjaya.

The park's contemporary launch report identified Zul and Jamal as individuals involved in presenting the facility to visiting officials.[1]

The exact legal ownership structure of the park has not been independently established.

Official opening, May 2010

[edit]

Cyberjaya Paintball Park officially opened on 9 May 2010.

A contemporary article published on the park's website on 11 May documented the opening ceremony.[1]

The event was attended by representatives of the Sepang Municipal Council and Cyberview.

Among those identified were:

  • Tuan Haji Yunos bin Khasib, Director of Development Planning at Sepang Municipal Council
  • Ir. Hafidz Hashim, Chief Executive Officer of Cyberview

The representatives participated in a formal opening ceremony and introductory paintball activities.

The programme included games between teams representing the municipal council and Cyberview, followed by recreational paintball sessions.

The contemporary report noted that the speedball field was not yet fully completed at the time of the opening.

This establishes that the park began operating while some of its tournament infrastructure was still under development.

Early development

[edit]

Cyberjaya Paintball Park developed into a facility accommodating both recreational and competitive players.

Its facilities included tournament-sized speedball fields, recreational playing areas and access to the amenities of the surrounding community club.

The park advertised introductory training, equipment rental, private events and team practice.

Its operators also promoted Cyberjaya as a destination for paintball and outdoor recreational activities.

Cyberjaya Intervarsity Annual Paintball Tournament 2011

[edit]

The park organised the Cyberjaya Intervarsity Annual Paintball Tournament in October 2011.

The published tournament information identified several objectives:

  • Promoting healthy recreational activity among students
  • Introducing university and college participants to paintball
  • Promoting Cyberjaya as a destination for outdoor and extreme activities
  • Encouraging networking between educational institutions

The competition was open to students and staff of universities, colleges, teacher-training institutions and other higher education centres.

The published schedule identified preliminary competition on 22 October and final rounds on 23 October 2011.

Registration was advertised at RM150 per team, with the use of house paintballs required.[3]

The available tournament announcement does not establish the final standings.

Paintball competition during the 2010s

[edit]

Cyberjaya Paintball Park continued operating as a venue for recreational and organised paintball during the 2010s.

A September 2013 article published by Adrex described the park's five playing fields, including two tournament-sized speedball fields and three recreational fields.[4]

The park was also associated with competitions for corporate groups and other organisations.

A 2017 Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants sports and games programme listed paintball at the Cyberjaya Community Clubhouse on 25 November.

The published regulations allowed up to ten teams, with six participants per team.[5]

This illustrates the use of the wider community club venue for organised recreational competition.

Southernlegion Race Series

[edit]

Cyberjaya Paintball Park became a regular venue for the Southernlegion Race Series (SLRS).

The tournament series offered competitive race-format paintball.

Documented SLRS events at the park include:

Date Competition
2–3 November 2024 Southernlegion Race Series Championship
26–27 July 2025 Southernlegion Race Series Leg 2
4–5 October 2025 Southernlegion Race Series Leg 3
6–7 December 2025 Southernlegion Race Series Leg 4
23–24 May 2026 Southern Legion Race tournament advertised as the final tournament at the original venue

The 2025 league included Open and Division 3 competitions.[6][7]

The park's operators later stated that the Southern Legion Race Series had been hosted at Cyberjaya Paintball Park since its beginning.[2]

The precise founding date of the series remains to be established.

Closure announcement, May 2026

[edit]

In May 2026, Cyberjaya Paintball Park announced that it would cease operating at its longstanding location at Kelab Komuniti Taman Tasik Cyberjaya.

The announcement stated that the park had operated since 2010, representing approximately sixteen years of activity.

The operators invited players to attend a final Southern Legion Race tournament on 23–24 May 2026.[2]

The announcement thanked players, staff, suppliers, tournament teams, Kelab Southernlegion and the Sepang Municipal Council.

It also acknowledged several teams that had used the venue as a home ground.

The closure marked the end of the park's original Cyberjaya location.

It does not independently establish the dissolution of the operating business or the cessation of activities by Southern Legion.

Playing fields

[edit]

Tournament speedball fields

[edit]

Cyberjaya Paintball Park advertised two tournament-sized speedball fields.

The facilities were designed for competitive paintball training and organised tournaments.

The park's website described a level grass playing surface, mirrored bunker layouts and marked field boundaries.

The main speedball field used inflatable Eclipse tournament-grade bunkers.[8]

The park also described an urban-assault playing area using artificial obstacles, including timber structures and steel drums.

These facilities allowed the venue to accommodate different types of tournament and recreational play.

Recreational fields

[edit]

The park advertised three recreational paintball fields.

Its website described more than three acres of wooded recreational terrain.

The fields incorporated different levels of vegetation, natural cover and artificial obstacles.

The recreational areas were designed to accommodate beginners, casual groups and more experienced players.

Different field environments provided opportunities for scenario-style games and woodland paintball.

Safety infrastructure

[edit]

The park's historical website described safety netting approximately eighteen feet high, supported by steel poles.

The operators stated that some areas used double-layer netting.

The park also described perimeter fencing intended to separate playing areas from surrounding property and roads.[8]

These descriptions represent the facility's published historical specifications rather than an independent engineering inspection.

Recreational paintball

[edit]

Cyberjaya Paintball Park catered to players with different levels of experience.

The park offered rental equipment, paintballs and supervised games.

Its published packages included paintball markers, hoppers, compressed-air systems, protective masks and field access.

The operators also provided introductory instruction for first-time players.

The park's historical FAQ recommended groups of approximately ten players, allowing games between two teams of five.[9]

The facility hosted birthday celebrations, reunions, social gatherings and other recreational activities.

Corporate and educational activities

[edit]

Corporate team building

[edit]

Cyberjaya Paintball Park advertised corporate team-building programmes.

The park offered customised activities involving recreational paintball, simulated team challenges and organised group games.

Its location within Cyberjaya provided access to businesses, universities and other institutions in the surrounding region.

The park's website promoted paintball as an activity for teamwork, communication and recreational participation.

University participation

[edit]

The Cyberjaya Intervarsity Annual Paintball Tournament in October 2011 was an early example of the park's involvement in student competition.

The tournament was open to participants from higher education institutions.

Its stated objectives included promoting healthy activities, introducing students to paintball and encouraging connections between institutions.[3]

The park continued to provide facilities for group events and organised competition during subsequent years.

Tournament and player development

[edit]

Competitive training

[edit]

The park provided facilities for established tournament players and teams.

Its speedball fields allowed teams to practise movement, shooting, communication and tournament strategies.

The venue offered dedicated training packages for competitive teams.

The presence of tournament-sized fields made the park suitable for organised race-format competition.

Southernlegion Race Series

[edit]

The Southernlegion Race Series became one of the park's principal documented competitions.

During 2025, the series included Open and Division 3 categories.

The published Leg 2 rules specified Race-to-4 competition for Open teams and Race-to-3 competition for Division 3.[6]

The series continued to be associated with the venue until the May 2026 closure announcement.

Southernlegion Rookie Cup

[edit]

The Southernlegion Rookie Cup was advertised at Cyberjaya Paintball Park for 6 September 2025.

The event used an introductory tournament format with house markers and restricted paintball allocations.

It provided a separate competition opportunity from the Open and Division 3 categories of the Southernlegion Race Series.[10]

Associated paintball teams

[edit]

Cyberjaya Paintball Park served as a home training venue for several Malaysian teams.

In its May 2026 closure announcement, the park specifically acknowledged:

  • El Juego Paintball Club (EJPC)
  • EJPC Junior
  • Rogue Troopers
  • SBJ
  • Kejahatan
  • Raskal
  • COD

The operators particularly thanked EJPC and EJPC Junior for supporting the venue from its early years.[2]

These acknowledgements demonstrate the park's role as a regular training location and gathering place for the Malaysian tournament community.

They do not necessarily establish that every named team was founded at the park.

Associated organisations

[edit]

Kelab Southernlegion

[edit]

Kelab Southernlegion was closely associated with tournament activities at Cyberjaya Paintball Park.

The club's wider involvement in Malaysian paintball can be traced to at least 2011 through university tournament documentation.

Its Southernlegion Race Series subsequently became a recurring competition at the park.

The park's May 2026 announcement identified Kelab Southernlegion as a longstanding partner.[2]

Sepang Municipal Council

[edit]

The Sepang Municipal Council was involved in the park's original launch in May 2010.

Municipal representatives attended the opening ceremony and participated in recreational paintball activities.

The park's original launch announcement acknowledged the council's support for the project.[1]

Cyberview

[edit]

Cyberview was another organisation acknowledged during the park's establishment.

Its chief executive attended the May 2010 opening.

The park's launch announcement credited Cyberview alongside the Sepang Municipal Council for supporting the facility's development.[1]

Commercial and community partners

[edit]

The May 2026 closure announcement thanked several commercial and community organisations associated with the park.

These included:

  • Raskal Sports
  • Mudtrekker Paintball Park
  • Goro And Friends
  • Pokokceri Paintball

The acknowledgements reflect the relationships between paintball venues, tournament organisers, equipment suppliers and media providers in Malaysia.

The exact commercial arrangements between these organisations have not been independently established.

Relationship to other Malaysian paintball fields

[edit]

Cyberjaya Paintball Park was one of several facilities supporting recreational and competitive paintball in Selangor.

Other important Malaysian tournament venues have included:

These facilities contributed to the development of tournament paintball through regular practice, competition and introductory participation.

Cyberjaya Paintball Park was particularly notable for combining tournament speedball fields with multiple recreational playing areas at a community club.

Historical significance

[edit]

Cyberjaya Paintball Park was a significant Malaysian paintball venue during the period from 2010 to 2026.

Its official opening on 9 May 2010 provides a documented starting point for the facility's history.

The park contributed to the development of paintball in Selangor through recreational activities, university tournaments, corporate events and competitive team training.

Its association with the Southernlegion Race Series made it an important location for domestic tournament competition.

The park also supported a community of competitive teams, including El Juego Paintball Club and its junior programme.

The May 2026 closure announcement marked the end of approximately sixteen years of operation at the original Cyberjaya location.

The closure represents an important event in the history of Malaysian paintball infrastructure.

Further research is required to document the park's complete tournament history, ownership structure and any subsequent relocation or reopening.
