Blackwood Hunters (Australian Paintball Team)
Blackwood Hunters was an Australian tournament paintball team documented in competition during the 1990s. The team won the Frankston Five-Man Tournament in Victoria, while a retrospective account published by Paint also records its victory at the 1991 Southern Cross Masters Invitational in Newcastle.[1][3]
History
[edit]1991 Southern Cross Masters
[edit]A retrospective photographic account published by Paint identifies Blackwood Hunters as the winner of the Southern Cross Masters Invitational, held in Newcastle in 1991.[3]
The account describes a ten-player tournament and records the visiting American team Green Machine as runner-up.[3]
Frankston Five-Man Tournament
[edit]Blackwood Hunters competed at the Frankston Five-Man Tournament at Splatball Village in Frankston, Victoria. Twelve teams entered the competition, which used rental SL-II pump markers, an 80-paintball limit and centre-flag games.[1]
The Hunters qualified for the four-team finals and won all three of their finals-round games. They then defeated Challenge Raiders in the championship game to win the tournament.[1]
The contemporary report was published in January 1996 but does not establish the tournament's date.[1]
Former members in Apparition
[edit]A report on the 1998 Victorian Five-Man Masters identified former Blackwood Hunters members within Apparition, the home team at Paintball Action Games near Ballan.[2]
Apparition supplied the core refereeing staff for that tournament. The report stated that some of its players had more than ten years of paintball experience, but did not identify the individual former Hunters members.[2]
