2015 NXL Great Lakes Open
The 2015 NXL Great Lakes Open was the opening tournament of the revived National Xball League (NXL), held from 5–7 June 2015 at Victory Park in North Ridgeville, Ohio, United States. Edmonton Impact won the professional competition, ahead of San Antonio X-Factor.[1][2][3]
Venue and programme
[edit]The tournament took place at Victory Park, 7777 Victory Lane, North Ridgeville. Although contemporary coverage frequently described it as the Cleveland tournament, the venue was in North Ridgeville.[1][4]
Competition ran from Friday, 5 June, through Sunday, 7 June. The accompanying trade show was announced for 4–7 June.[1][3]
The event opened the revived NXL's three-tournament national programme following the suspension of Paintball Sports Promotions' 2015 season.[3]
Formats
[edit]The NXL used timed X-Ball matches rather than PSP's RaceTo system. It also offered traditional single-point five-player competition and open ten-player paintball.[3]
The event listing specified the following formats and game limits:[1]
| Competition | Format | Published game time |
|---|---|---|
| Professional | X-Ball | 16 minutes |
| Semi-professional | X-Ball | 16 minutes |
| Division 2 | X-Ball | 16 minutes |
| Division 3 | X-Ball | 16 minutes |
| Division 4 | X-Ball | 16 minutes |
| Division 4 five-player | Single-point five-player | 5 minutes |
| Open ten-player | Ten-player | 10 minutes |
Division 3 five-player and open pump five-player were also advertised. Both recorded zero entries in the registration listing and have no published final placings.[1][2]
The NXL's announced rules prohibited outside coaching. The league used APPA player classification and registration.[3]
Professional competition
[edit]Sixteen teams entered the professional division.[1]
Contemporary Friday coverage recorded Impact defeating Seattle Thunder 9–2 and Tampa Bay Damage 5–3. X-Factor defeated Moscow Red Legion 4–2 and Los Angeles Ironmen 5–4. Houston Heat defeated Boom 6–1 and Dynasty 5–4.[4]
Impact finished first, X-Factor second, Houston Heat third and upTon 187 cRew fourth.[2]
