2012 NPPL Chicago Open
The 2012 NPPL Chicago Open was a National Professional Paintball League (NPPL) tournament held from 18–20 May 2012 at CPX Sports in Joliet, Illinois, United States.[1] It was the second event of the 2012 NPPL season and took place alongside Living Legends V.[2][3]
Infamous won the professional division, defeating Edmonton Impact 3–2 in the final. San Francisco Explicit finished third and Tampa Bay Damage fourth.[3]
Venue and Living Legends
[edit]The tournament was staged at CPX Sports, rather than within the city of Chicago. WARPIG's contemporary field preview identifies the venue as CPX in Joliet and records the tournament dates as 18–20 May.[1]
The NPPL event ran in conjunction with Living Legends 5, bringing tournament and scenario paintball to the same venue over the weekend. Social Paintball interviewed NPPL representative Chuck Hendsch on site on 18 May and explicitly identified the two events as being held together.[2]
WARPIG published a virtual fieldwalk based on the NPPL's field maps. Its preview identified Sup'Air bunkers as the equipment used on the tournament fields.[1]
Professional competition
[edit]The professional quarter-final pairings were Arsenal against Tampa Bay Damage, San Antonio X-Factor against Infamous, Edmonton Impact against Sacramento XSV, and Portland Uprising against San Francisco Explicit.[3]
Infamous subsequently faced Damage in the semi-finals, while Impact played Explicit. Infamous defeated Impact 3–2 in the final; Explicit defeated Damage for third place.[3]
San Diego Dynasty did not qualify for the Sunday rounds.[3]
