2012 PSP Chicago Open
The 2012 PSP Chicago Open was a Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP) tournament held from 21–24 June 2012 at CPX Sports in Joliet, Illinois, United States. It was the third event of the 2012 PSP season and featured professional and divisional RaceTo competition.[1]
Los Angeles Infamous won the professional division, defeating Moscow Red Legion 4–3 in overtime. Tampa Bay Damage finished third and Los Angeles Ironmen fourth.[2][3]
Venue and format
[edit]The tournament took place at CPX Sports, at 2903 Schweitzer Road in Joliet. Both the official event listing and WARPIG's contemporary field preview confirm the venue and the 21–24 June dates.[1][4]
The professional division played RaceTo-7, Divisions 1 and 2 played RaceTo-5, and Divisions 3 and 4 played RaceTo-4. Additional five-player RaceTo-2 competitions were held for Divisions 3 and 4, alongside an open pump RaceTo-2 division.[1]
WARPIG published a virtual fieldwalk based on PSP's field maps, noting that the tournament fields would use the same layout of Sup'Air bunkers.[4]
Professional competition
[edit]Infamous and Moscow Red Legion both completed the preliminary round undefeated. Infamous defeated Tampa Bay Damage 7–3, upTon 187 cRew 7–2, Los Angeles Ironmen 4–3 and Chattanooga C.E.P 7–3.[5]
Moscow defeated San Diego Dynasty 7–0, Omaha Vicious 5–4, Chicago Aftershock 6–4 and Seattle Thunder 7–0. Damage, Houston Heat, Dynasty and Ironmen also qualified for the Sunday rounds.[5]
Final
[edit]Infamous faced Moscow Red Legion in the professional final. Moscow led 3–2 late in regulation time before Infamous equalised with 1 minute 32 seconds remaining. Neither team scored again before time expired, sending the match into overtime.[3]
Infamous won the overtime point to secure a 4–3 victory. The result followed the team's professional victory at the 2012 NPPL Chicago Open, also held at CPX Sports.[3][5]
