2007 NPPL season

From WikiPaintball

The 2007 NPPL season was the fifth season of the National Professional Paintball League's Super 7 World Series. Five United States tournaments offered seven-player competition in Professional, Semi-Pro and Divisions I–III.[1][2][3][4][5]

San Diego Dynasty won its fifth consecutive professional Super 7 series championship. A-Team won Semi-Pro, Dynasty Entourage won Division I, 187 cRew won Division II and Xclusive won Division III.[5]

Organisation

[edit]

The season began following the acquisition of the NPPL and XPSL by Pacific Paintball LLC. Shawn Walker became president of Pacific Paintball, overseeing both leagues.[1]

Professional remained an eighteen-team restricted division. Teams seeking professional status competed through Semi-Pro, while the lowest-ranked professional teams faced relegation.[1][5]

Kansas City professional final

[edit]

Los Angeles Ironmen and Edmonton Impact each won one championship game, with the remaining game drawn. Both teams declined the prescribed one-on-one tie-breaker and agreed to share first place. A tied first-place result was announced at the tournament.[4]

The league subsequently required the tie to be resolved. A postponed one-on-one contest took place at the start of the Commander's Cup, which Ironmen won, establishing Ironmen first and Impact second for Kansas City.[5]

Dynasty won the Commander's Cup while Edmonton Impact finished fourth, securing Dynasty's professional championship. A-Team and Dynasty Entourage also won both their finale tournament and season titles.[5]

Promotion and relegation

[edit]

The season's promotion system offered professional places to leading Semi-Pro teams, with the bottom three professional teams moving down.[5]

Pasadena Bad Company, Las Vegas LTZ and Miami Rage occupied the relegation positions. Sacramento XSV retained its professional status.[5]

The following season's opening report identified OC Bushwackers, San Antonio X-Factor and Aftermath as new or returning professional entrants. Their participation is distinct from A-Team's documented 2007 Semi-Pro championship.[7]

Competition developments

[edit]

The 2007 rules required a flag hang to win a game in best-of-three rounds. A higher score based solely on surviving or eliminated players no longer constituted a win in those rounds; unresolved contests could proceed to one-on-one tie-breakers.[1]

The rules also added provisions for five-player and three-player formats, although the principal Super 7 competition remained seven-player.[1]

At Kansas City, the main competition field was placed inside Kemper Arena. The event attracted 129 teams.[4]
