1994 NPPL Chicago Open
The 1994 NPPL Chicago Open was the fourth event on the published National Professional Paintball League schedule for 1994. Contemporary announcements advertised the tournament in the Chicago area, Illinois, for 24–28 August 1994, between the 1994 NPPL Los Angeles Open and the 1994 NPPL World Cup.[1][2]
Organisation and schedule
[edit]The Chicago Open formed part of the NPPL's five-event programme for its second season. The league's January announcement named Aftershock and the SOBs as the teams scheduled to referee the Chicago tournament.[1]
The published season programme provided for five-man competition on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by ten-man competition from Friday to Sunday. However, the January announcement specifically identified Chicago as a possible exception: the event might offer only ten-man competition, with a final decision due before the end of June.[1]
A subsequent season preview in Action Pursuit Games continued to advertise Chicago for 24–28 August and described the league's general five-day programme, but did not explicitly resolve the earlier qualification concerning Chicago's five-man competition.[2]
Competition arrangements
[edit]Under the NPPL's announced 1994 arrangements, professional and amateur teams were to compete for separate awards. The January rules overview specified that the leading eight professional teams and eight amateur teams would advance to their respective semi-finals and finals.[1][2]
The published season entry fees were US$1,500 for amateur ten-man teams and US$2,000 for professional ten-man teams. Five-man entry was advertised at US$500 per team, although Chicago's inclusion of that format remained conditional in the January announcement.[1]
All 1994 NPPL tournaments were advertised as allowing teams to bring their own paintballs. The league also specified a minimum of six referees on each ten-man field.[1]
