1994 NPPL World Cup

From WikiPaintball

The 1994 NPPL World Cup was a paintball tournament held at Paintball World in Kissimmee, Florida, during October 1994. It was the final event of the National Professional Paintball League's five-event season and the first Paintball World Cup held in Florida following its relocation from New York. Contemporary announcements advertised the tournament for 12–16 October 1994.[1][2]

The All Americans won both the professional five-man and professional ten-man competitions. Blasters won the amateur ten-man division, while The Firm won the amateur five-man division.[3][4]

Background and venue

[edit]

The World Cup followed the 1994 NPPL Chicago Open as the concluding tournament on the published NPPL schedule. A contemporary season preview in Action Pursuit Games announced its move from New York to the Orlando area and reported that the league was already receiving reservations.[1]

The venue was Paintball World, a commercial woodland paintball field in Kissimmee, behind the Old Town entertainment complex. WARPIG's later historical accounts identified the availability of inexpensive accommodation and international air connections as advantages of the Orlando area for the relocated tournament.[2][5]

Competition arrangements

[edit]

The tournament featured separate professional and amateur divisions in both five-man and ten-man formats.[3]

The published 1994 programme scheduled five-man competition for the first two days of each five-day event, followed by ten-man competition during the remaining three days.[1]

The league's January announcement named the Florida Annihilators and Palm Beach Predators as the teams scheduled to referee the World Cup. All NPPL events that season were advertised as allowing competitors to bring their own paintballs.[6]
