Asia Girls Paintball International Championship
Asia Girls Paintball International Championship (AGPIC) was an international women's paintball tournament established in Singapore in 2017. Organised by the team behind the Singapore Paintball Series (SPS), the championship provided a dedicated competition for female players from Singapore and overseas.[1]
The event was held at Red Dynasty Paintball Park in Singapore and used a five-player electronic paintball format. By 2019, the championship attracted seven teams and more than 40 female players.[1][2]
History
[edit]Establishment (2017)
[edit]The idea for the Asia Girls Paintball International Championship originated in 2016, with the inaugural tournament taking place in 2017.[1]
The competition was developed by the organisers of the Singapore Paintball Series to increase women's participation in competitive paintball.
At the time, women commonly competed as individual members of predominantly male teams throughout Asia. AGPIC was intended to bring female players together in a dedicated international tournament.[1]
Singaporean paintball organiser Jane Koh, who was involved in establishing Red Dynasty Paintball Park and the Singapore Paintball Series, played a leading role in the development of AGPIC.[3]
2018 championship
[edit]The second edition of AGPIC was scheduled for 4 August 2018 in Singapore.
The organisers originally announced the event for 5 August but moved it forward by one day following requests from participants and to accommodate the scheduling of Singapore Paintball Series 500 Event 2.
The announcement invited female players from Singapore and overseas and included plans for a live online webcast.[4]
2019 championship
[edit]The third AGPIC was scheduled for 14 July 2019 at Red Dynasty Paintball Park, located at Turf City, Bukit Timah, Singapore.[1]
The championship formed part of a two-day tournament programme on 13–14 July that also included the Asia Paintball Masters, Asia Under-23 Championship, Singapore 7s Series and Asia 1vs1 Open Championship.
The organisers subsequently reported that the 2019 AGPIC attracted seven teams and more than 40 female players.[2]
Planned expansion to Malaysia (2020)
[edit]In its 2020 executive summary, the Singapore Paintball Series announced plans to hold AGPIC in Malaysia for the first time.
The proposed expansion was associated with a partnership between the Singapore Paintball Series and the organisers of NXL Asia.
The organisers stated that they intended to develop AGPIC beyond Singapore and collaborate with other regional tournament organisations to promote women's paintball.[2]
The available documentation establishes the announcement but does not confirm that the proposed Malaysian tournament took place.
Competition format
[edit]The 2019 AGPIC used a five-player electronic paintball format based on Singapore Paintball Series rules.
The published competition regulations specified:
- Five players on the field per team.
- Maximum roster of eight players.
- Seven-minute match time.
- Mercy limit of two points.
- Maximum of four paintball pods per player.
- Semi-automatic or ramping firing modes, capped at 10.5 balls per second.
- No sideline coaching.
The competition was open to female players regardless of nationality or competitive division.
Under Singapore's regulations, participants were required to be at least 14 years old.[1]
Organisation
[edit]AGPIC was organised by the team responsible for the Singapore Paintball Series.
The competition was associated with Red Dynasty Paintball Park, which hosted Singapore's domestic and international speedball tournaments.
Jane Koh was among the organisers involved in developing the Singapore tournament scene. Her work in women's paintball, including AGPIC, was documented in Paintball Media Magazine in June 2025.[3]
The Singapore Paintball Series also had organisational relationships with the Paintball Asia League Series and international tournament promoters.[1]
Role in women's paintball
[edit]AGPIC provided a dedicated tournament opportunity for female players in Southeast Asia during a period when women's-only competitions were relatively uncommon within the regional tournament structure.
The organisers identified increasing women's participation as a principal objective, noting that many existing Asian tournament teams included only one or two female players.[1]
The competition offered female players opportunities to participate in international five-player paintball without requiring an established national women's league.
Its introduction preceded the establishment of the professional Women's National Xball League in 2021.
