2020 NXL Australia was the 2020 season of NXL Australia, an Australian tournament paintball league. The advertised programme comprised four rounds each in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia, followed by national finals. Contemporary records confirm competition at all three opening rounds and subsequent Western Australian events, but do not establish completion of the full programme.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

The season was interrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic. WASP Paintball described its June tournament as its first event following the shutdown. Several other advertised rounds and the national finals remain unconfirmed, rather than demonstrably completed or explicitly cancelled.[5][8]

Advertised programme

[edit]

The league's calendar advertised five-man competition at Ultimate Paintball Camden in New South Wales, Paintball Games Coldstream in Victoria and WASP Paintball in Western Australia.[1]

Division 1 and Division 2 were advertised in each state, with Division 3 also offered in Victoria. PBLeagues instead listed the Western Australian events as a single Open division.[1][9]

The table distinguishes advertised arrangements from evidence that competition took place. Confirmation of an event does not necessarily establish that every advertised division played or that every advertised day was used.

Documented results

[edit]

The surviving evidence supports only a partial account of results.

Event Division Team Documented result
NSW Round 1 Division 1 entry East Coast Hawks The team reported winning the round and remaining undefeated in a post dated 8 March 2020. Complete standings and match scores have not been recovered.[12][13]
Victoria Round 1 Division 1 entry Melbourne Mutiny Second place reported by Jackson Chandler. PBLeagues records the team in Division 1.[6][14]

These results do not establish state series champions or national champions.

Unresolved Western Australian result report

[edit]

A separate Plague Paintball report described second place against STK Australia in Open at Perth “Round 3”. Photographs accompanying the report are dated 4 August 2020, and the report described competition over the preceding weekend.[15][16]

WASP had already published an album identifying a Perth Round 3 event in June. The relationship between the June record and the August report has not been resolved. The reported placing therefore cannot securely be assigned to the June round or relabelled as Round 4.[5][15][16]

COVID-19 impact

[edit]

Contemporary venue records document an interruption followed by a return to competition in Western Australia. WASP's “2020 NXL Perth Round 3” album described the tournament as its first event following the shutdown; photographs from that album were published on 26 June. The venue subsequently documented a Round 4 event in August.[5][7]

The original calendar remained online in an archive captured on 21 October 2020, including dates that had already passed. Its continued display does not establish that those events went ahead.[1]

The surviving evidence does not establish the individual administrative outcome of every affected round. In particular, no verified replacement dates or explicit cancellation notices have been established for the unconfirmed events listed above. They should not collectively be described as completed or cancelled solely because they remained on the calendar or lack recorded results.

Results records

[edit]

PBLeagues retains event listings and registrations for the season, but its records are incomplete as evidence of actual play. For example, the NSW opening round and the finals both display “No Games Completed”, although contemporary photographs independently confirm that the NSW opening round took place.[3][17][18]

Registration lists are not final standings. No verified overall 2020 championship table or national finals winner has been established.
