The 2017 NXL Chicago Open was a National Xball League (NXL) paintball tournament held from 8 to 10 September 2017 at Chicago Gaelic Park in Oak Forest, Illinois, United States. It followed the 2017 NXL Atlantic City Open and preceded the season-ending World Cup.[1]

Edmonton Impact won the professional tournament, defeating ac Dallas 4–3 in the final.[2]

Dates and venue

[edit]

Competition took place at Chicago Gaelic Park, 6119 West 147th Street, Oak Forest, from Friday, 8 September, to Sunday, 10 September 2017.[1]

A contemporary announcement from the Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau promoted the event as the NXL's Midwest Paintball Championship. It advertised free parking, trade-show admission and viewing of divisional games, with separate tickets for the professional grandstands.[3]

Competition formats

[edit]

Professional, Semi-Pro and Division 2–4 X-Ball were advertised with 16-minute game times. Traditional five-player competition was offered in Divisions 3, 4 and 5, with five-minute game times.[1]

The event also included Open ten-player and Intermediate mechanical five-player competition. Ten-player games were listed with ten-minute game times. Open Pump five-player competition was offered for registration but attracted no entries.[1][4]

Amateur and Novice two-player competitions were advertised with three-minute game times. Their results were recorded separately through the NXL 2vs2 Series.[1][5]

Professional competition

[edit]

Edmonton Impact lost its opening preliminary match 6–2 to Moscow Red Legion, then won its remaining six matches.[2]

The final produced a second meeting with ac Dallas, which Impact again won 4–3.[2]
