2010 NPPL Huntington Beach Open
The 2010 NPPL Huntington Beach Open, also promoted as the 2010 Surf City Open, was a National Professional Paintball League (NPPL) tournament held from 9 to 11 April 2010 on the beach at Huntington Beach, California. It opened the 2010 NPPL season following the circuit's operation under the US Paintball League (USPL) name in 2009. San Diego Dynasty won the professional seven-player division, defeating Edmonton Impact in the final.[1][2][3]
Return to NPPL branding
[edit]The USPL had continued national seven-player competition in 2009 after the collapse of the previous NPPL operating business. In April 2009, it announced that it had purchased the trademarks and rights to the NPPL Super 7 World Series and was considering using the name the following year.[4]
Contemporary coverage identified the 2010 Huntington Beach tournament as an NPPL event, although WARPIG retained a USPL heading and website directory for its report.[1][3]
Venue and competition
[edit]Competition took place on three fields at the beach. Amateur games began on Friday, while professional competition was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.[1]
The event included professional and amateur seven-player divisions, Division 3 and Division 4 five-player competition, and a pump division.[1][2]
The final rounds used best-of-three pairings. Semi-final winners advanced to contest first and second place, while the losing teams played for third and fourth.[1]
Professional results
[edit]Dynasty lost the opening game of the professional final against Edmonton Impact but won the next two to secure the title. Oakland Blast similarly recovered from an opening loss to defeat Los Angeles Infamous for third place.[1]
