The 2010 PSP Phoenix Open was the opening tournament of the 2010 Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP) season, held from 19 to 21 March 2010 at the Glendale Youth Soccer Complex in Glendale, Arizona. Edmonton Impact won the professional RaceTo-7 division, defeating Tampa Bay Damage 7–4 in the final.[1][2]

Venue and competition

[edit]

The tournament took place on grass fields at the Glendale Youth Soccer Complex. Event publicity also identified the location by the neighbouring University of Phoenix Stadium. The site opened on Thursday, 18 March, for registration and field walking, with competition beginning on Friday.[1][4]

Competition included professional and semi-professional RaceTo-7, Division 1 and Division 2 RaceTo-5, Division 3 and Division 4 RaceTo-4, and separate Division 3 and Division 4 RaceTo-2 divisions.[1]

RaceTo-2 used a best-of-three five-player format. In the longer RaceTo formats, teams competed to reach the division's points target before the match clock expired.[1]

Professional competition

[edit]

Edmonton Impact defeated Dynasty 6–5 in the quarter-finals and LA Infamous 7–4 in the semi-finals. Tampa Bay Damage reached the final by defeating Chicago Aftershock 7–1.[5]

Impact won the final 7–4, securing its first PSP professional tournament victory. Chicago Aftershock finished third ahead of LA Infamous.[1][5]
