Mohd Sofian bin Mohd Daud, commonly known as Sofian Daud, is a Malaysian paintball tournament organiser. He served as tournament director of the Malaysian National Paintball League (MY-NPL) during the late 2000s and early 2010s.[1][2]

Daud was involved in administering MY-NPL events at venues throughout Malaysia and appeared in announcements for related or feeder competitions, including the Nemesis X-Tour, Malaysian Super Lite and International Super Seven Championship.[3][4][5] He also appeared as an organiser contact for other Malaysian tournaments during the early 2010s.[6][7]

Tournament administration

[edit]

Early documented activity

[edit]

Daud appeared as an event contact for the PJ Mayor's Cup 2007, held at the Malaysian Paintball Academy (MAPAAC) in Petaling Jaya.[8]

By the end of the 2007 MY-NPL season, league announcements consistently identified him as the circuit's tournament director. He was listed in that capacity for the season finale held at MAPAAC on 10 and 11 November 2007.[1]

The surviving records do not establish when he first received the appointment or whether the PJ Mayor's Cup represented his first involvement in tournament administration.

Malaysian National Paintball League

[edit]

Daud served as tournament director during MY-NPL's multi-round national seasons. His full name and title appeared on Malay-language league press releases as:

Mohd Sofian bin Mohd Daud, Pengarah Kejohanan, Liga Paintball Kebangsaan Malaysia.[2]

The title Pengarah Kejohanan translates as tournament director.

His documented responsibilities included issuing or signing tournament announcements, serving as an organiser contact and providing information concerning registration, competition schedules and venue arrangements.

During the 2009 season, Daud was named as tournament director in announcements for events at MAPAAC, Johor Bahru, Kuantan and Malacca.[2][9] A press release following the Kuantan round was issued under his name and title.[10]

These records establish responsibility for tournament administration and communications. They do not by themselves establish that he owned MY-NPL, MAPAAC or any company associated with the league.

Daud remained identified as MY-NPL tournament director when the league published its provisional 2011 calendar. The announcement included MY-NPL rounds and related competitions scheduled at Putrajaya, Kuantan, Malacca and MAPAAC.[5]

[edit]

Nemesis X-Tour

[edit]

Daud was named as a contact for the first round of the Nemesis X-Tour, held in Kuantan on 1 and 2 March 2008.[3]

The tournament was presented by Nemesis Paintball Club with support from MY-NPL, the Malaysian Paintball Referee Organisation and MAPAAC. Daud's appearance as a contact demonstrates his administrative involvement but does not establish that he independently owned or promoted the series.

Malaysian Super Lite

[edit]

The Malaysian Super Lite tournament held at MAPAAC on 10 and 11 October 2009 was organised by Nemesis Paintball Club with support from MY-NPL.

Tournament material identified Daud as the MY-NPL tournament director and an event contact. A concurrent Division 4 competition used MY-NPL rules and was also administered through MY-NPL contacts.[4]

International Super Seven Championship

[edit]

The International Super Seven Championship appeared in MY-NPL calendars as a related competition. Daud was named as the MY-NPL contact in the provisional schedule which included the 2011 championship in Putrajaya.[5]

The schedule documents his connection with the administrative network supporting the event, but does not define his precise responsibilities during every edition of the championship.

Other tournament activity

[edit]

Daud appeared among the contacts for the Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup held in Kuching on 30 and 31 October 2010.[6] The announcement separately identified BPP Stadium Paintball and PBB Youth N12 as the organisers.

His inclusion as a contact should not be interpreted as evidence that he was the event's principal organiser or tournament director.

In December 2013, Daud and Mohd Zulfadli were listed as organiser contacts for the sixth Liga Kampung tournament in Ipoh. The tournament was scheduled for 28 and 29 December and used the Malaysian Paintball Referee Organisation as its marshalling body.[7]

This is the latest located tournament announcement naming Daud. It does not establish when he ceased participating in paintball administration.

Relationship with Malaysian paintball organisations

[edit]

Malaysian Paintball Academy

[edit]

MAPAAC was the principal venue associated with MY-NPL. Daud appeared regularly in announcements for league rounds and related tournaments held at the academy.

The available sources document a working association between Daud, MY-NPL and MAPAAC but do not establish that he owned the facility.

Tactical Action

[edit]

Several MY-NPL registration notices instructed teams to make payments to Tactical Action Sdn. Bhd., while separately identifying Daud as tournament director.[9]

This establishes that Tactical Action handled particular administrative or financial functions for the league. It does not establish Daud's employment status, ownership interest or legal relationship with the company.

Malaysian Paintball Referee Organisation

[edit]

The Malaysian Paintball Referee Organisation was associated with officiating tournaments in which Daud appeared as a league official or organiser contact, including the Nemesis X-Tour and Liga Kampung.[3][7]

The available sources do not identify Daud as an officer, referee or member of M-PRO.
