Paintball in Africa is the continental hub for African paintball history on WikiPaintball.

This page provides access to articles documenting the teams, tournaments, playing fields, organisations, equipment manufacturers, media and people who have contributed to the development of paintball across Africa.

From recreational woodland games and commercial playing fields to organised tournament competition, competitive speedball and scenario paintball, the sport has developed through local communities, businesses and sporting organisations in different parts of the continent.

Africa's paintball history encompasses a wide range of experiences, from established commercial playing fields and organised competitions to smaller recreational communities and locally organised events.

WikiPaintball aims to preserve this history through contemporary publications, tournament records, photographs, archived websites, industry documentation and the recollections of people who participated.

This page covers Africa as a geographic continent, not a particular political or sporting organisation. It includes countries throughout North, West, Central, East and Southern Africa, as well as relevant islands and territories.

This page is a directory, not a comprehensive history. Explore the categories below to discover articles, records and historical resources.

Other Territories and Geographic Areas

In addition to sovereign countries, Africa includes territories and geographic areas with distinct local histories.

These entries provide a place to document any relevant paintball activity without assuming that organised paintball has been confirmed in every location.

Territory or Area Description
Western Sahara Disputed territory in northwestern Africa.
Réunion French overseas department and region in the Indian Ocean.
Mayotte French overseas department and region in the Indian Ocean.
Canary Islands Spanish autonomous community off the northwestern African coast.
Ceuta Spanish autonomous city on the northern coast of Africa.
Melilla Spanish autonomous city on the northern coast of Africa.
Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha British Overseas Territory comprising islands in the Atlantic Ocean.

Geographic and Political Considerations

Africa's geographic boundaries are generally well established, although the political status of some territories remains disputed.

WikiPaintball includes Western Sahara as a separate geographic entry to support historical documentation without taking a position on its sovereignty.

Overseas territories associated with European countries are included where geographically relevant to Africa. Their paintball histories may also appear in the appropriate European national collections.

The regional groupings used on this page are intended for navigation and may differ from classifications used by international organisations.

The inclusion of a country or territory does not imply that paintball activity has been independently documented there.

Historical Periods

Explore the development of paintball in Africa through different decades.

  • 1980s – Early documented activity, equipment imports and the introduction of recreational paintball where records are available.
  • 1990s – The development of commercial playing fields, recreational communities and organised competition in different countries.
  • 2000s – Growth in commercial operators, local teams, national competitions and international connections.
  • 2010s – Developments in competitive speedball, recreational participation, national organisations and regional tournaments.
  • 2020s – Contemporary teams, competitions, playing facilities and developments across the continent.

These categories are intended to organise historical material as it becomes available. They should not be interpreted as confirmation that organised paintball existed in every country during each period.

Historical Records and Resources

African paintball history has been recorded through commercial field websites, local news reports, tournament results, photographs, videos, social media communities and personal collections.

However, documentation varies considerably between countries and regions.

Many early playing fields and local tournaments operated without extensive published records. Websites have disappeared, businesses have closed and online communities have moved between platforms.

Historical material is also spread across multiple languages, including English, French, Arabic, Portuguese and numerous African languages.

WikiPaintball aims to identify, preserve and reference these materials wherever possible.

Tournament Results Historical championship results, league standings, team rankings and tournament records.

African Paintball and the World

African paintball communities have developed connections with international players, equipment suppliers, tournament organisers and sporting organisations.

These connections have included the importation of equipment, participation in international competitions, visits by overseas players and the adoption of tournament formats developed in other parts of the world.

South Africa has been one of the continent's more visible paintball markets, with commercial playing fields, competitive teams and organised tournaments contributing to the sport's development.

Other countries have developed their own recreational and competitive communities, although the surviving historical documentation varies considerably.

WikiPaintball aims to document these international connections alongside the domestic histories of individual African countries.

Relevant articles can be found through the team, tournament, organisation and people categories above.

Help Preserve African Paintball History

Were you involved in paintball in Africa? Do you remember a team, tournament or playing field that deserves to be documented?

Much of Africa's paintball history remains undocumented or difficult to access.

Historic playing fields have closed, local teams have disbanded, tournament records have disappeared and websites and social media pages have been deleted.

Many valuable photographs, videos, documents and stories survive only in private collections or the memories of people who participated.

We're particularly interested in:

  • Historical photographs, videos and tournament footage
  • Tournament results, team rosters and event programmes
  • Information about former paintball fields, teams and businesses
  • The history of local clubs, national associations and tournament organisers
  • Paintball equipment suppliers, manufacturers and technical developments
  • Historical advertisements, websites, newspaper articles and online archives
  • Personal recollections from players, referees, coaches, organisers and field operators
  • Records of African teams and players participating in international competitions

Historical material in any language is welcome.

Firsthand memories are especially valuable when they help identify people, locations and events in surviving historical records.

Where possible, WikiPaintball aims to distinguish historical recollections from information independently verified through contemporary sources.

Even a small contribution can help recover a forgotten part of African paintball history.

About This Collection

Africa is an important part of WikiPaintball's long-term goal of documenting paintball history around the world.

The collection covers countries and territories across Northern, Western, Central, Eastern and Southern Africa, including recreational paintball, competitive teams, tournaments, clubs, commercial operators, equipment businesses and international participation.

WikiPaintball is an independent historical preservation project, separate from any particular commercial paintball company, manufacturer, league or governing body.

The collection is a work in progress.

Some subjects have surviving documentation through tournament results, publications and archived websites, while others are known only through photographs, advertisements or personal recollections.

As new information becomes available, articles can be expanded, corrected and supported by additional references.

Our aim is to build a lasting historical record recognising everyone who contributed to the development of paintball across Africa.
