Paintball in North America

From WikiPaintball

Paintball in North America is the continental hub for North American paintball history on WikiPaintball.

This page provides access to articles documenting the teams, tournaments, playing fields, organisations, equipment manufacturers, media and people who have contributed to the development of paintball throughout North America.

North America played a foundational role in the development of modern paintball. The first organised paintball game took place in New Hampshire, United States, in 1981, and the following decades saw the growth of commercial playing fields, equipment manufacturers, professional teams, tournament leagues and recreational paintball communities.

From early woodland competitions and scenario games to professional speedball, international championships and major equipment innovations, North American players, businesses and organisations have influenced the development of paintball around the world.

WikiPaintball aims to preserve this history through contemporary publications, tournament records, photographs, archived websites, industry documentation and the recollections of people who participated.

This page covers North America as a geographic continent, including Central America and the Caribbean. It is not limited to the United States, Canada and Mexico.

This page is a directory, not a comprehensive history. Explore the categories below to discover articles, records and historical resources.

Geographic Considerations

[edit]

North America is treated here as including Northern America, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

Some geographic classifications treat Central America and the Caribbean as separate regions, but both are included within North America for WikiPaintball's continental navigation.

Greenland is included because it is geographically part of North America, despite its political association with Denmark.

The Caribbean contains independent countries, overseas territories and constituent countries within larger states. Their separate inclusion is intended to support geographic navigation and historical documentation.

Some Caribbean territories are associated with European countries, and relevant articles may also appear in European national collections where appropriate.

The inclusion of a country or territory does not imply that organised paintball activity has been independently documented there.

Historical Records and Resources

[edit]

North American paintball history has been documented through specialist magazines, tournament reports, equipment catalogues, instructional videos, photographs, newspapers, websites and online forums.

The region has produced a substantial amount of historical material, particularly through the growth of the commercial paintball industry and professional tournament competition.

However, many important records have become difficult to access.

Historic tournament websites have disappeared, magazines have ceased publication, commercial fields have closed and online communities have migrated between platforms.

Many early tournament results, team rosters, photographs and business records survive only in private collections or archived websites.

Documentation also varies between countries and territories, with smaller paintball communities often having fewer surviving records.

WikiPaintball aims to identify, preserve and reference these materials wherever possible.

North American Paintball and the World

[edit]

North America has played a foundational role in the international development of modern paintball.

The first organised paintball game took place in New Hampshire in 1981, and the sport subsequently expanded into commercial recreational activities and organised competitions.

American and Canadian equipment manufacturers contributed to the development of early paintball markers, air systems, loaders, protective equipment and other products that became widely used internationally.

Professional teams, tournament organisers and playing fields in North America helped establish competitive formats that influenced leagues and tournaments around the world.

Major international competitions in the United States have attracted teams and players from Europe, Asia, Oceania, South America and Africa.

Canadian, Mexican, Central American and Caribbean players and teams have also participated in regional and international competitions, contributing to connections between paintball communities.

North American coaches, referees, event organisers and industry professionals have travelled internationally, while visiting teams and players have helped strengthen the region's competitive community.

WikiPaintball aims to document these international connections alongside the domestic histories of individual countries and territories.

Relevant articles can be found through the team, tournament, organisation and people categories above.

Help Preserve North American Paintball History

[edit]

Were you part of the early North American paintball scene? Do you remember a team, tournament or field that deserves to be documented?

Despite the region's importance to the development of modern paintball, much of its history is at risk of being lost.

Historic paintball parks have closed, teams have disbanded, tournament organisers have ceased operating and once-popular magazines, websites and online forums have disappeared.

Many tournament results, photographs, videos and stories survive only in private collections or the memories of people who participated.

We're particularly interested in:

  • Historical photographs, videos and tournament footage
  • Tournament results, team rosters and event programmes
  • Information about former paintball fields, teams and businesses
  • The history of national associations, professional leagues and regional competitions
  • Early paintball equipment manufacturers and technical innovations
  • Historical magazines, advertisements, websites and forum archives
  • Personal recollections from players, referees, coaches, organisers and industry professionals
  • Records of North American teams and players competing internationally

Historical material in English, Spanish, French, Dutch, Haitian Creole and other languages is welcome.

Firsthand memories are especially valuable when they help identify people, locations and events in surviving historical records.

Where possible, WikiPaintball aims to distinguish historical recollections from information independently verified through contemporary sources.

Even a small contribution can help recover a forgotten part of North American paintball history.

About This Collection

[edit]

North America is an important part of WikiPaintball's long-term goal of documenting paintball history around the world.

The collection covers Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and relevant territories, including recreational paintball, competitive teams, national and international tournaments, sporting organisations, commercial operators, equipment manufacturers and international participation.

The United States has its own dedicated national landing page, with navigation organised by state and territory, while remaining part of the wider North American collection.

WikiPaintball is an independent historical preservation project, separate from any particular commercial paintball company, manufacturer, league or governing body.

The collection is a work in progress.

Some subjects have extensive surviving documentation, while others are known only through photographs, archived websites, tournament records or personal recollections.

As new information becomes available, articles can be expanded, corrected and supported by additional references.

Our aim is to build a lasting historical record recognising everyone who contributed to the development of paintball across North America.
