2007 Super 5s (New Zealand): Difference between revisions

From WikiPaintball
Created 2007 Super 5s season article covering six recovered rounds, complete published event scores, divisional standings after Round 6, tournament format, May postponement, team participation and documented scoring discrepancies, with 11 contemporary archived sources.

Rewrite to WikiPaintball standards; identify A Paintball Adventure as the series venue, preserve six rounds of results, clearly date interim standings and explain published score discrepancies, link existing teams, and replace the incorrect tournament category.

The 2007 Super 5s was the 2007 season of the Super 5s five-player paintball series, held at A Paintball Adventure in Papakura, Auckland. The competition maintained separate championship standings for two divisions.[1][9][10]

2007 Super 5s (New Zealand) was the 2007 season of the Super 5s, a five-player tournament paintball series held in the Auckland region of New Zealand.
Legion led Division 1 and Sinista led Division 2 after the sixth round on 26 August. These were interim standings, not the final championship results.[6]

The competition featured two divisions, with teams accumulating championship points across successive rounds. Surviving results document six rounds between 25 February and 26 August 2007, with a seventh scheduled for September.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
Season
Legion won four of the six documented rounds and led Division 1 after Round 6, while Sinista led Division 2. The final championship results have not been recovered.[6]
The series opened on 25 February, with Legion winning Division 1 and Punx winning Division 2. Menace won the March and April rounds, followed by Legion winning the June, July and August rounds.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Season overview
The round provisionally scheduled for 13 May was postponed because it coincided with Mother's Day. A separate Queen's Birthday tournament was distinguished from the regular Super 5s competition, which resumed on 24 June.[3][4][8]

The season opened on 25 February 2007, with Legion winning Division 1 and Punx finishing first in Division 2.[1]
A seventh round was announced for 23 September at A Paintball Adventure.[7]

Menace won the next two rounds in March and April. The May event was subsequently postponed, and regular competition resumed on 24 June.[2][3][8]
Format
Legion won the June, July and August rounds, establishing a substantial lead in the Division 1 championship.[4][5][6]
The competition used a five-player, hopper-ball format, limiting players to the paint carried in their loaders. An additional pod was discussed before the March round, but the discussion did not confirm adoption of the proposed change.[9]

A seventh round was announced for 23 September 2007, but its results have not been recovered.[7]
The opening round's results were published by division. The subsequent round reports presented combined classifications, while retaining separate divisional championship standings.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

A separate event originally planned for May was postponed because of Mother's Day. The June competition was subsequently treated as the fourth round in the recovered season chronology.[8]

Legion won the June round ahead of Team AJ and Sinista. The report welcomed a new Insane squad that included returning members, and Nexa, an entry associated with Nexa Paintball Supplies. Nexa recorded its only win of the day against Sinista.[4]

The next event was provisionally scheduled for 13 May 2007. However, an announcement published on 5 May confirmed that the May Super 5s would not proceed as planned because of Mother's Day.[8]

The event marked the first documented Super 5s appearance of Insane under its 2007 team line-up. The contemporary report noted that some earlier Insane members had returned to competition.[4]
Round 5: 22 July
Nexa was also welcomed as a new entrant. The team was associated with Nexa Paintball Supplies and competed using electronic Spyder markers. Despite finishing last overall, Nexa defeated Sinista in one of its games.[4]
Legion won the July round ahead of Sinista and A.J.[5]

The June report also documented the participation of players associated with the established Saints organisation.

Teams
The championship figures are reproduced as published. Nemisis's cumulative total did not increase after its 338-point June result, while Punx remained on 558 points after scoring 419 in July. The March report had listed Punx's total as 820 points pending a decision. The reports do not explain the subsequent discrepancies.[2][3][4][5][6]

At least 17 distinct team entries appear across the published 2007 championship standings.

These include established Division 1 teams such as Legion, Menace, Solid and XXX, alongside Division 2 competitors including Sinista, Nemisis, Pirates, Punx and Seven Deadly Sins (7 D.S).

The season also documented newer or returning entries, including Insane, Nexa, Team James and F.B.I.

Nemisis had previously competed under the name Cut-throats. A January 2007 tournament announcement explicitly identified the name change.[11]

The results use both Team AJ and A.J for the same championship entry, as supported by the cumulative points.

Competition format
The Super 5s used a five-player format with two competitive divisions.

Contemporary discussions describe the series as using hopper-ball rules, restricting players to the paintballs carried in their loaders.

A proposal to allow an additional pod was discussed before the March event, but the surviving records do not establish that the change was implemented.[9]

Although the championship maintained separate divisional standings, several published round results combined teams from both divisions into a single overall classification.

Scoring discrepancies
Some published championship totals do not reconcile with the individual round results.

In particular:

* Nemisis had 1,211 championship points after Round 3. The team scored another 338 points in June, but the June cumulative table still recorded 1,211 points. The discrepancy continued into later published standings.
* Punx had a provisional total of 820 points after Round 2, explicitly subject to a pending decision. The Round 3 standings instead listed 558 points, without explaining the adjustment.
* Punx subsequently scored 419 points in July, but the cumulative table following that round still listed 558 points.
* Doomed received 85 points in Round 1. The Round 2 cumulative report tentatively recorded 65, while subsequent standings returned to 85.

These differences are preserved as published rather than silently corrected. The available records do not establish the administrative decisions, penalties or other circumstances that may explain them.

Historical records
The season's surviving results are preserved through archived discussions from the NZ Paintball Message Boards, associated with Paintball.co.nz.

Original round reports provide event scores, divisional standings and contemporary accounts of participating teams.

Results are available for six rounds. The published records do not establish the final 2007 championship outcome or the complete results of any later events.

Revision as of 09:35, 25 October 2026

The 2007 Super 5s was the 2007 season of the Super 5s five-player paintball series, held at A Paintball Adventure in Papakura, Auckland. The competition maintained separate championship standings for two divisions.[1][9][10]

Legion led Division 1 and Sinista led Division 2 after the sixth round on 26 August. These were interim standings, not the final championship results.[6]

Season

The series opened on 25 February, with Legion winning Division 1 and Punx winning Division 2. Menace won the March and April rounds, followed by Legion winning the June, July and August rounds.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

The round provisionally scheduled for 13 May was postponed because it coincided with Mother's Day. A separate Queen's Birthday tournament was distinguished from the regular Super 5s competition, which resumed on 24 June.[3][4][8]

A seventh round was announced for 23 September at A Paintball Adventure.[7]

Format

The competition used a five-player, hopper-ball format, limiting players to the paint carried in their loaders. An additional pod was discussed before the March round, but the discussion did not confirm adoption of the proposed change.[9]

The opening round's results were published by division. The subsequent round reports presented combined classifications, while retaining separate divisional championship standings.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
