Addicted was a competitive paintball team from Wellington, New Zealand. The team is documented from 2005 to 2015, winning the 2005 Nelson Three-Man Tournament and a 2006 Auckland Queen's Birthday tournament before finishing second overall in the 2015 South Auckland Paintball Club Open X-Ball Race Series.[1][2][3]

Addicted was a New Zealand competitive paintball team registered in Wellington. The team competed in the South Auckland Paintball Club (SAPC) Open X-Ball Race Series during 2015, finishing second overall behind Auckland Faction.[1][2]
Contemporary records identify Joshua Bailey as the team's captain in 2006.[4] Contributor clarification confirms that the New Zealand Addicted entries recorded during the 2000s and the Wellington-based team registered with PBLeagues in 2015 were the same team.

Addicted finished second at three of the four events during the season, earning 293.93 ranking points.[2]
History
2005 season
Addicted's first confirmed tournament result is its victory at the 2005 Nelson Three-Man Tournament, held at the Nelson A&P Showgrounds in July 2005.[1]

The published standings identified Addicted as a Wellington team and recorded the following leading placings:[1]

The result report stated that the tournament comprised more than 80 games and was refereed by the Black Ops Factory Team.[1]

Addicted was subsequently listed as registered for the second round of the 2005 Hamilton 3x Series under the entry `Addicted (duka duka, Mohummad Jihad)`.[5] The team does not appear in the recovered final results, so the registration is not treated as proof of participation.

2006 season
A March 2006 payment-status report listed Addicted among seven paid entries for the Wellington Easter tournament at the Grenada North playing fields.[6] The surviving material establishes that the entry fee had been paid but does not provide a complete result table confirming Addicted's final participation or placing.

Forum posts made during the event period identify Joshua Bailey as captain of Addicted and a Wellington representative.[4]

At an Auckland tournament held during Queen's Birthday weekend in June 2006, a participant reported the leading placings from memory as:[3]

History
The same discussion identified a player named Jim from Wellington Hybrid as playing with Addicted at the event. It does not provide Jim's surname or establish that he became a permanent Addicted member.[3]

Bailey reported that Addicted lost only one game, the first semi-final against Phantom.[3] No official score table, complete entrant list or precise venue has been recovered, so the published order remains a participant-reported result.

Activity in 2007
A September 2007 discussion following the Christchurch X-ball tournament referred to Addicted as an existing Wellington team and discussed the prospect of the team playing again. The discussion does not show that Addicted competed at that particular Christchurch event, and its results are therefore not assigned to the team.[7]

The surviving remarks indicate continued team identity but do not establish a complete 2007 roster, tournament programme or final results.

A Wellington paintball team named Addicted won the 2005 Nelson Three-Man Tournament, held at the Nelson A&P Showgrounds in July 2005.
Informal replies associated with the 2005 Nelson tournament mention Matt, Brad and Josh, but they do not explicitly provide a complete Addicted roster. Those names are therefore not presented as the confirmed 2005 squad.[1]

A contemporary results report published on the NZ Paintball Message Boards identified Addicted as the winner, ahead of Fallen Red and Bleeding Welts, both from Christchurch.[7]
2015 PBLeagues roster
The 2005 team and the Addicted entry recorded in the 2015 SAPC competition were both associated with Wellington.
PBLeagues records the following eight players for Addicted's 2015 competition history:[2][13][14][15][16]

However, the recovered sources do not establish whether they shared players, management or organisational continuity. The 2005 tournament victory is therefore not included in the 2015 team's competitive record.

The PBLeagues appearance totals do not establish that all eight players competed at every round. Chris Jones is recorded for one event, Daniel Renner and Ethan Bailey for three, and Cuan Lategan, Joshua Bailey, Kane Anderson, Mike Taylor and Tom Van Lierop for all four recorded events.[2]

The 2015 Addicted team's PBLeagues registration is dated 3 January 2015 and identifies Wellington as its hometown.[1]
Joshua Bailey's appearance in the 2015 roster, together with his documented Addicted captaincy in 2006, provides a player link between the team's earlier and later competition periods.[2][4]

The registration date does not establish when the team was originally formed.
Identity
The recovered PBLeagues profile lists four tournament appearances, corresponding to the 2015 SAPC Open X-Ball Race Series.
The team name is generic and has also been used by unrelated overseas paintball teams. Only entries connected with New Zealand competition or the PBLeagues Wellington team are included here.

Individual event roster records survive in the PBLeagues database, although the historical player lists were not publicly accessible during this research.[8]
The PBLeagues team registration is dated 3 January 2015. This is a database registration date and not Addicted's founding date.[2] The earlier New Zealand records establish that the team name was already in use by 2005.

The team's complete playing roster and subsequent competitive history have not been established.

Contemporary records identify Joshua Bailey as the team's captain in 2006.[4] Contributor clarification confirms that the New Zealand Addicted entries recorded during the 2000s and the Wellington-based team registered with PBLeagues in 2015 were the same team.

History

[edit]

2005 season

[edit]

Addicted's first confirmed tournament result is its victory at the 2005 Nelson Three-Man Tournament, held at the Nelson A&P Showgrounds in July 2005.[1]

The published standings identified Addicted as a Wellington team and recorded the following leading placings:[1]

Position Team Reported location
1 Addicted Wellington
2 Fallen Red Christchurch
3 Bleeding Welts Christchurch
4 Soul Assassins Nelson
5 Exile Nelson

The result report stated that the tournament comprised more than 80 games and was refereed by the Black Ops Factory Team.[1]

Addicted was subsequently listed as registered for the second round of the 2005 Hamilton 3x Series under the entry `Addicted (duka duka, Mohummad Jihad)`.[5] The team does not appear in the recovered final results, so the registration is not treated as proof of participation.

2006 season

[edit]

A March 2006 payment-status report listed Addicted among seven paid entries for the Wellington Easter tournament at the Grenada North playing fields.[6] The surviving material establishes that the entry fee had been paid but does not provide a complete result table confirming Addicted's final participation or placing.

Forum posts made during the event period identify Joshua Bailey as captain of Addicted and a Wellington representative.[4]

At an Auckland tournament held during Queen's Birthday weekend in June 2006, a participant reported the leading placings from memory as:[3]

Reported position Team
1 Addicted
2 Saints
3 XXX
4 Phantom

The same discussion identified a player named Jim from Wellington Hybrid as playing with Addicted at the event. It does not provide Jim's surname or establish that he became a permanent Addicted member.[3]

Bailey reported that Addicted lost only one game, the first semi-final against Phantom.[3] No official score table, complete entrant list or precise venue has been recovered, so the published order remains a participant-reported result.

Activity in 2007

[edit]

A September 2007 discussion following the Christchurch X-ball tournament referred to Addicted as an existing Wellington team and discussed the prospect of the team playing again. The discussion does not show that Addicted competed at that particular Christchurch event, and its results are therefore not assigned to the team.[7]

The surviving remarks indicate continued team identity but do not establish a complete 2007 roster, tournament programme or final results.

2015 SAPC Open X-Ball Race Series

[edit]

Addicted competed in all four rounds of the 2015 SAPC Open X-Ball Race Series at Asylum Paintball in Kingseat, Auckland. PBLeagues records Wellington as the team's home town.[2]

At the opening event on 31 January–1 February, Addicted finished fourth among eight teams with 61.43 ranking points.[8]

At Event 2 on 11–12 April, Addicted defeated Wolves, ADHD and CamoMeat, and drew 3–3 with Auckland Faction during preliminary play. Auckland Faction defeated Addicted 2–1 in the final, leaving Addicted second among seven teams.[9]

Addicted again finished second at Event 3 on 13–14 June. Its preliminary results included 4–0 victories over Shattered and ADHD and a 2–2 draw with CamoMeat. Auckland Faction won their preliminary meeting 4–2 and defeated Addicted 4–0 in the final.[10]

At the concluding event on 1–2 August, Addicted defeated Auckland Faction 2–1 during preliminary play. Faction won the final 4–2, with Addicted finishing second among four teams.[11]

The official season standings awarded Addicted 293.93 ranking points and second place overall. Auckland Faction won the championship with 387.14 points, while ADHD finished third with 242.5.[12]

Historical personnel

[edit]
 • Joshua Bailey – identified in contemporary 2006 forum signatures as captain of Addicted and a Wellington representative.[4]
 • Jim – Wellington Hybrid player reported as guesting for Addicted at the 2006 Auckland Queen's Birthday tournament; surname not established.[3]

Informal replies associated with the 2005 Nelson tournament mention Matt, Brad and Josh, but they do not explicitly provide a complete Addicted roster. Those names are therefore not presented as the confirmed 2005 squad.[1]

2015 PBLeagues roster

[edit]

PBLeagues records the following eight players for Addicted's 2015 competition history:[2][13][14][15][16]

Player PBLeagues events recorded with Addicted
Chris Jones 1
Cuan Lategan 4
Daniel Renner 3
Ethan Bailey 3
Joshua Bailey 4
Kane Anderson 4
Mike Taylor 4
Tom Van Lierop 4

The PBLeagues appearance totals do not establish that all eight players competed at every round. Chris Jones is recorded for one event, Daniel Renner and Ethan Bailey for three, and Cuan Lategan, Joshua Bailey, Kane Anderson, Mike Taylor and Tom Van Lierop for all four recorded events.[2]

Joshua Bailey's appearance in the 2015 roster, together with his documented Addicted captaincy in 2006, provides a player link between the team's earlier and later competition periods.[2][4]

Identity

[edit]

The team name is generic and has also been used by unrelated overseas paintball teams. Only entries connected with New Zealand competition or the PBLeagues Wellington team are included here.

The PBLeagues team registration is dated 3 January 2015. This is a database registration date and not Addicted's founding date.[2] The earlier New Zealand records establish that the team name was already in use by 2005.
