GoSports is a professional paintball broadcasting and subscription streaming service associated with the National Xball League (NXL) and Major League Paintball (MLPB). It provides live tournament broadcasts, recorded matches, documentaries and other paintball-related video programming.[1]

GoSports became involved in professional tournament broadcasting during the NXL's revival in 2015 and introduced a dedicated subscription streaming platform in 2016. Its coverage has included American NXL tournaments and the European Millennium Series.[2][3]

The service has been associated with commentators Matty Marshall and Rich Telford, filmmaker and producer Sina Azmoudeh, and broadcast producer Darren Cesena.[1][4]

History

[edit]

Early broadcasting (2015)

[edit]

GoSports developed its professional tournament broadcasting operations alongside the revived National Xball League in 2015.

The organisation worked with Casadonte Productions, a video production company operating from Dallas and San Francisco, to establish a dedicated live broadcasting system for NXL events.[2]

The partnership covered the 2015 NXL Great Lakes Open in Cleveland, the Virginia Beach Open and the NXL World Cup in Kissimmee, Florida.

Early broadcasts incorporated multiple cameras, live commentary, instant replay and electronic graphics displaying match scores and player information.

By December 2015, Sina Azmoudeh was serving as vice-president and executive producer of GoSports.[4]

Subscription streaming platform (2016)

[edit]

On 20 January 2016, Paintball Media published an announcement introducing a dedicated GoSports subscription platform.

The new service was developed in partnership with the NXL and Millennium Series to provide live professional paintball coverage alongside an archive of earlier tournaments.[3]

The announced platform included:

  • Recorded matches from the 2015 NXL season.
  • Recorded matches from the 2015 Millennium Series.
  • Live NXL and Millennium Series tournament coverage during 2016.
  • Replay and on-demand viewing.
  • Documentary productions and instructional videos.
  • Behind-the-scenes coverage of professional teams.

The initial subscription price was announced as US$8 per month.

The service was designed to provide access to both tournament broadcasts and additional programming between events.

Continued development

[edit]

GoSports continued providing professional paintball coverage during subsequent NXL seasons.

The platform developed an archive of tournament broadcasts, including individual professional matches and season coverage.

Its programming also expanded to include player interviews, podcasts, documentaries and instructional content.

GoSports subsequently became associated with Major League Paintball Plus (MLPB+), the streaming platform used to distribute professional NXL broadcasts and archived content.[5]

Major League Paintball identifies GoSports as its official broadcast partner and media rights holder.[1]

Broadcast production

[edit]

Technical development

[edit]

During its early operations, GoSports worked with Casadonte Productions to develop a mobile broadcast system capable of covering professional paintball tournaments.

The production incorporated multiple cameras positioned around the playing field, recording equipment, live video switching and electronic graphics.

In December 2015, broadcast technology company ChyronHego documented the use of its Lyric PRO and Graffiti graphics systems during NXL webcasts.

The systems displayed match scores and player elimination information during live competition.[4]

In June 2016, Blackmagic Design published details of the production system developed by Casadonte Productions.

The equipment included Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K cameras, ATEM production switchers, Smart Videohub routing equipment and HyperDeck recorders.[2]

The system supported multiple camera feeds, aerial footage and the recording of individual matches for later viewing.

Commentary

[edit]

Matty Marshall became closely associated with GoSports as its lead commentator.

A former professional paintball player and experienced tournament broadcaster, Marshall provided play-by-play commentary and analysis during NXL events.

Other commentators associated with the broadcasts have included Rich Telford, Nick Slowiak and Steve Rabackoff.[1][6]

GoSports broadcasts combined match commentary with player interviews, tactical analysis and discussions of professional tournament competition.

Original programming

[edit]

In addition to live tournament coverage, GoSports developed and distributed other paintball media.

Programming announced during the platform's 2016 introduction included:

  • Paintball University – instructional programming featuring professional players, including Justin Rabackoff.
  • The Rundown – a documentary series covering professional teams and tournament campaigns.
  • Behind-the-scenes productions – footage documenting professional teams during training, travel and competition.

The original announcement identified AC Dallas, Upton 187 and Houston Heat among the teams associated with planned documentary coverage.[3]

The platform subsequently hosted interviews and discussion programmes featuring professional players, coaches and industry representatives.

Its archive includes an interview with Sina Azmoudeh discussing his work on The Impact Series, GoSports and the Ultimate Shootout project.[7]

Major League Paintball Plus

[edit]

GoSports' broadcast content subsequently became available through Major League Paintball Plus, also styled MLPB+.

The platform provides subscription access to live professional paintball, archived NXL tournaments and original programming.[5]

Its published season archive includes broadcasts dating back to the revived NXL's inaugural 2015 season.

Major League Paintball continues to identify GoSports as its broadcast partner, while promoting Major League Paintball Plus as the streaming destination for NXL competition.[1][5]

The Major League Paintball Plus mobile application is published by GoSports LLC.[8]
