Wellington Hybrid was a New Zealand tournament paintball team based in Wellington and founded by Martin Dannefaerd. Active during the 2000s, the team participated in New Zealand paintball events and was associated with early New Zealand participation in the Australian X-Ball League (AXL).[1][2]

The team's activities are documented through its historical Flickr archive, including photographs associated with the 2006 Big Boys Toys exhibition in Auckland.[1]

History

Formation

Wellington Hybrid was founded by Martin Dannefaerd, a Wellington paintball player and organiser who had previously competed with Team Spirit.

Dannefaerd was also a founder of the New Zealand Paintball Players Association (NZPPA), established in 2001.[2][3]

The precise founding date of Wellington Hybrid has not been established.

The team's Flickr account was created in 2005 and preserves photographs documenting its activities during the following years.[1]

New Zealand competition

Big Boys Toys 2006

Wellington Hybrid participated in paintball activities associated with the Big Boys Toys 2006 exhibition in Auckland.

The team's Flickr archive contains an album titled "Big Boys Toys 2006", with photographs uploaded in June 2007.

The photographs include tournament paintball equipment and players associated with the event, including an image of a Planet Eclipse Nexus Ego marker.[1][4]

The surviving photographs document the team's association with the exhibition but do not establish a tournament placing.

Australian X-Ball League

Wellington Hybrid was associated with New Zealand participation in the Australian X-Ball League (AXL), an Australian tournament series active during the 2000s.

According to firsthand historical recollections, Martin Dannefaerd organised an early New Zealand team entry into the competition.[2]

The AXL operated X-Ball competition, including professional and lower divisions. Its existence is documented in historical league directories and an Australian trademark application filed in July 2008.[5][6]

The precise dates of Wellington Hybrid's participation, playing roster and tournament results have not yet been independently confirmed.
