Australian X-Ball League
The Australian X-Ball League (AXL) was an Australian tournament paintball competition using the X-Ball format. The league was active by 2008 and operated multiple competitive divisions, including professional and Division 2 competition.[1][2]
The AXL formed part of Australia's tournament paintball scene alongside competitions such as the Australian Super 7s. Its precise founding date, organisers and final operating season have not yet been established.
History
Early documented competition
The Australian X-Ball League was active by 2008.
A PB Nation discussion concerning MacDev-sponsored teams in 2008 identified participation in Australian X-Ball League Division 2 competition.[1]
A separate discussion from October 2008 referred to Australian X-Ball League champions, confirming that championship competition was taking place during that period.[2]
The surviving records do not establish the league's inaugural season or complete list of participating teams.
Competition format
The AXL used the X-Ball format, in which teams competed in timed matches involving multiple points.
Historical accounts identify professional and lower-division competition within the league.[1][3]
The specific match durations, divisional eligibility requirements and equipment regulations used by the AXL have not been established from an original league rulebook.
New Zealand participation
The AXL also attracted participation from New Zealand tournament players.
Martin Dannefaerd has been identified in historical accounts as organising a New Zealand team to compete in the Australian X-Ball League.[4]
The team's registered name, playing roster, tournament dates and results have not yet been independently confirmed.
Historical records
Surviving references to the AXL include contemporary paintball forum discussions and tournament video footage.
Video material published under the title AXL Round 3 Australian X-Ball League Paintball documents competition using the league's name.[5]
A complete archive of official tournament results and season standings has not yet been located.
Relationship to other Australian leagues
The Australian X-Ball League should be distinguished from the Australian Super 7s, which used a seven-player tournament format.
It should also be distinguished from NXL Australia, a later tournament organisation established in 2016.[6]
The available evidence does not establish a direct organisational succession between the AXL and NXL Australia.
