TECT All Terrain Park
TECT All Terrain Park, also known as TECT Park, is a recreation park at Ngawaro in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. Located off State Highway 36 between Tauranga and Rotorua, it accommodates Bay of Plenty Paintball Club and has hosted East Coast Paintball League tournaments.[1][2][3]
Background
[edit]The approximately 1,650-hectare park was jointly purchased in 2004 by Western Bay of Plenty District Council and Tauranga City Council, with support from Tauranga Energy Consumer Trust and Bay Trust. It opened in 2010.[4]
The park operates as a joint venture between the two councils. Dedicated user groups manage their own facilities within the wider recreation area.[1][4]
Paintball facilities
[edit]Bay of Plenty Paintball Club operates facilities for bushball and speedball at the park, including a playing field equipped with inflatable Sup'Air bunkers.[2]
On 22 May 2019, the club announced that its new field was ready following approximately two and a half years of fundraising and construction. Its first official club day was advertised for 9 June 2019.[5]
TECT funding supported site clearance and levelling, safety netting and supporting infrastructure, including a water tank, generator and trailer-mounted toilets.[6]
In September 2020, club treasurer River Jermyn reported that the dedicated site provided reliable access for members and enabled the club to attract tournament players from across the North Island.[6]
Tournament paintball
[edit]The park hosted the opening round of the East Coast Paintball League in early March 2020.[7]
The third round followed on 26 July 2020. Bay of Plenty club entries finished first and fourth at that tournament.[3]
