Splatterzone (Hamilton)

From WikiPaintball

Splatterzone, also written Splatter Zone, was an indoor paintball field on Sunshine Avenue in Hamilton, New Zealand. A contemporary 2004 review described its inflatable playing field and its association with Daytona Indoor Karting and Splatterzone in Palmerston North.[1]

History

[edit]

Opening in 2004

[edit]

Tony “Skinny” Dickson reviewed the venue for NZ Paintball Online in 2004. He described visiting the premises during their development and subsequently attending an opening weekend, which attracted players from Auckland and Rotorua. The review separately advertised an official opening for 21–22 August 2004.[1]

Dickson identified Steve as the owner of Daytona, Paul as the manager overseeing Hamilton's Daytona and Splatterzone operations, and David as the manager responsible for Splatterzone Hamilton. Their surnames were not given. The review stated that the owners also operated Splatterzone in Palmerston North.[1]

Facilities

[edit]

The indoor playing area measured approximately 21 metres by 55 metres and used inflatable barricades anchored to the concrete floor. A layer of sawdust approximately 200 millimetres deep covered the playing surface.[1]

The venue had a large staging area, a netted spectator area and a separate area for eliminated players. Rental equipment included Spyder Victor II markers, masks, overalls and chest protectors.[1]

Later record

[edit]

On 14 May 2006, a contributor to NZPaintball's Hamilton field-directory discussion reported their understanding that Splatterzone no longer existed and requested its removal from the listing. A moderator acknowledged the report that day. The discussion does not establish an exact closure date.[2]
