Red Sevens (Singapore Paintball Team)

From WikiPaintball

Red Sevens is a Singapore-based competitive paintball team. Founding member Ben Seow dated its formation to 2006 in a February 2012 interview. A later profile identifies Seow and Jane Koh as its co-founders.[1][2]

The team competed in Malaysian and international tournaments and won the 2011 Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit Division 2 overall championship and Singapore Paintball Series Open overall championship.[1]

History

[edit]

Early development

[edit]

An October 2008 account described the team's recruitment through the internet and its early training trips to Malaysia. The name combined red, representing Singapore's flag, with the founders' intention to recruit seven players.[3]

The same account identified the Werdnahol Cup as the team's first tournament. A separate team-associated history listed participation in the 2007 Werdnahol Cup, Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit and World Cup Asia, followed by the 2008 NPPL Asian Invitational.[3][4]

Early Red Sevens players also worked as facilitators at Red Dynasty Paintball Park, according to the venue's historical account.[5]

Championships and sponsorship

[edit]

In February 2012, Seow confirmed that Red Sevens had won the 2011 MPOC Division 2 and Singapore Paintball Series overall championships. He also described a subsequent restructuring following player departures.[1]

Cherry Credits sponsored the team for 2012, when it adopted the name Cherry Credits Red Sevens.[1] Cherry Credits Red Sevens II won the 2012 SPS Open Division overall championship.[6]

In April 2013, Red Sevens won an MPOC Division 2 tournament, defeating Kraken in the semi-final and Simpsons in the final. The contemporary report identified Ben Seow as captain and recorded renewed sponsorship from Dye Asia.[7]

Later Singapore competition

[edit]

The team subsequently appeared in Singapore tournament records as Tanjong Pagar Red Sevens. Under that name, it won the Open Division at the opening SPS 500 event in March 2018.[8]
