Establishment

[edit]

Ramped was publicly announced on 29 December 2010 as a new Malaysian paintball lifestyle magazine. Its promotional material described a planned bimonthly, 100-page print publication priced at RM15 per issue.[1]

The magazine intended to cover both competitive speedball and recreational paintball, together with equipment, instructional material and profiles of Asian players and teams.[1]

Its announced Malaysian distribution network included:

The announcement identified Amber Wong and Shamsher "Terry" Opherden as publication contacts. It did not give either person an editorial title at that time.[1]

Publication history

[edit]

Issue 1

[edit]

Although the first issue was initially scheduled for January 2011, a contemporary notice published in March stated that it had been distributed at a Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit event in Malacca and would be available at a forthcoming Malaysian National Paintball League event.[2]

The March notice provides confirmation that the magazine proceeded beyond its launch announcement and entered physical distribution.

Issue 3

[edit]

On 19 October 2011, Xtion Paintball advertised copies of Ramped issue 3 at its Bukit Jalil operation.[4] This establishes that at least three issues were printed during the magazine's first year.

No complete issue list, publication register or surviving statement identifying the magazine's final issue has been located. The announced bimonthly frequency should therefore not be interpreted as proof that six issues appeared each year.

Editorial coverage

[edit]

Ramped covered the competitive and recreational sides of paintball, including regional tournaments, players, teams and equipment.[1]

The magazine also participated in the wider Asian paintball community. It was named among the supporting organisations for the Singapore Paintball Series in April 2011.[5]

By 2012, Amber Wong was identified as Ramped's editor-in-chief.[3] Launch material had previously listed Wong and Shamsher Opherden as contacts, but no editorial position has been verified for Opherden.[1]

International publishing partnership

[edit]

On 1 June 2012, the international paintball publication FACEFULL announced an alliance with Ramped and the Russian publication Headshot Paintball and Life.[3]

The arrangement provided for the three magazines to share selected editorial material and offer coordinated advertising placements. Translated material was planned for Headshot, which covered Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, while Ramped was described as covering Asia and the Pacific region.[3]

The partnership announcement identified:

Publication Region Editor identified in the announcement
FACEFULL International Romain Manière
Ramped Asia and the Pacific Amber Wong
Headshot Paintball and Life Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States Stanislav Osipov

The announcement described Ramped as a Malaysian print magazine focused exclusively on paintball and stated that the first shared content and advertising placements were expected during the northern summer of 2012.[3] Available records do not establish how much shared material was ultimately published.

Publication status

[edit]

Ramped remained active when the international partnership was announced in June 2012.[3]

No reliable source has been located identifying a final issue, suspension announcement or closure date. The disappearance of its former website is not sufficient evidence to assign an end date.
