Paintball Mania

Paintball Mania was a recreational paintball operator located in Magħtab, Malta. The business operated an outdoor paintball facility on Ramla Street, offering recreational games, group bookings and facilities for players using their own paintball equipment.

The venue was documented in commercial advertising during 2015 and continued publishing promotional material until at least 2020. In April 2023, its operator announced the suspension of games for refurbishment.

History

Early operations

Paintball Mania maintained a paintball facility at No. 6 Ramla Street, Magħtab, approached from the Coast Road near Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.

Its historical website, maltapaintballmania.com, was operational by August 2015. An archived version identified the venue's location, provided booking information and advertised both recreational paintball sessions and field rental for players using their own equipment. [1]

Earlier archived versions of the domain from 2011 and 2013 displayed domain-parking pages rather than an operational paintball website. These captures do not establish when the business first opened.

Recreational paintball

Paintball Mania provided organised recreational paintball games, including group bookings and equipment rental.

A commercial offer published by Deal.com.mt and valid until the end of November 2015 advertised five playing sessions of approximately 15 minutes each, with 300 paintballs per participant. The package included overalls, protective vests and full-face masks. [2]

The offer required a minimum booking of ten participants and specified an age restriction of 18 years and over.

Paintball Mania also advertised evening games. Surviving promotional material includes a night-games announcement dated 9 November 2018. [3]

Local paintball community

In addition to recreational bookings, Paintball Mania offered facilities for players who owned their own equipment.

The venue's archived website advertised field rental for such players at €10 per person. It also featured a photographic gallery associated with KAO$ Malta Paintball Team, an established local paintball group. [1][4]

The presence of the team gallery provides documentary evidence of a connection between the commercial venue and Malta's organised paintball community.

A later public Facebook discussion also refers to SouthClan Paintball Team Malta training at the Magħtab venue. [5]

These records establish use of the venue by established paintball players, although they do not independently establish the dates or results of formal tournaments at Paintball Mania.

Facilities

Paintball Mania operated an outdoor playing area with artificial obstacles used as cover.

Historical photographs published by the operator show recreational paintball activity in outdoor terrain containing wooden and other defensive structures.

The venue's commercial packages included protective equipment, paintball markers and organised games. Its separate owner-equipment rental offering provided access to the playing area without requiring players to use the operator's rental markers.

The documented facilities should not be confused with a regulation-size inflatable-bunker speedball field. The available historical sources do not establish that Paintball Mania operated such a field.

Suspension of operations

On 9 April 2023, Paintball Mania announced that the venue was undergoing refurbishment and that paintball games were not being organised during that period. [3]

The announcement expressed an intention to resume hosting customers in the future.

The surviving public announcement establishes a suspension of operations, but does not identify the final game held at the venue or independently establish a permanent closure date.

Some subsequent commercial directories continued displaying opening hours and descriptions of Paintball Mania. Such listings do not establish that games resumed following the April 2023 announcement.

Historical significance

Paintball Mania was one of several commercial paintball facilities operating in Malta during the 2010s, alongside venues including Extreme Paintball (Ta' Qali) and Spear Games Paintball.

Its surviving website is particularly useful as evidence of a commercial operator serving both recreational customers and established paintball players.

The venue's association with KAO$ and references to SouthClan training illustrate the overlap between recreational paintball facilities and Malta's developing organised paintball community.
