Monkeys (New Zealand Paintball Team)
Monkeys was a New Zealand tournament paintball team documented in three-player competition during 2005 and 2008. The team finished second in the opening round of the 2005 Hamilton 3x Series and third in its second round.[1][2] It later placed second in the opening round of the 2008 Hamilton 3s.[3]
Monkeys is treated as distinct from Clown Monkeys, a Christchurch-based team documented in competition from 2009. The available sources do not establish a shared roster or organisational relationship between the two teams.
History
[edit]2005 Hamilton 3x Series
[edit]Monkeys competed in the opening round of the 2005 Hamilton 3x Series on 10 July 2005. It finished second among twelve teams with 814 points, behind Running with Scissors and ahead of Karnage. The result gave Monkeys four series points.[1]
At the second round on 11 September 2005, Monkeys scored 696 points and finished third behind Running With Scissors and Hybrid. The interim standings published after the round placed Monkeys second in the series with ten points.[2]
The organiser also recorded a Monkeys game against Blind V lasting 22.82 seconds, including the flag hang.[2] No completed third round or final championship table has been identified in the inspected records.
2008 Hamilton 3s
[edit]Monkeys returned to documented competition in the opening round of the 2008 Hamilton 3s, held on 3 February at Horsham Downs. The team finished second behind Gypsys. The organiser published the players’ first names as Charles, Matt and Seth.[3] Charles has been identified as Charles Champness and Seth as Seth Brown. Matt's surname has not been established.
At the second round on 6 April, Monkeys and Team Samich were listed together as occupying third and fourth places. The contemporary result did not distinguish which team held each position, so an individual placing is not assigned.[4]
Monkeys was absent from the published results for the third round on 8 June.[5] The surviving records do not establish whether the 2005 and 2008 appearances represent continuous activity between those seasons.
