Matt Wong
Matt Wong, also known by the nickname Stick, is a New Zealand tournament paintball player associated with Wellington Hybrid, SCK Factory and Menace. His competitive activities are documented through historical photographic archives covering tournaments in New Zealand and Australia between 2005 and 2010.[1][2][3]
Wong maintained a Flickr account under the username spinner, preserving photographs from New Zealand and Australian tournament paintball events during the 2000s.[1]
Paintball career
[edit]Wellington Hybrid
[edit]Wong played for Wellington Hybrid, a New Zealand tournament team founded by Martin Dannefaerd.
The team competed in the Australian X-Ball League (AXL) during 2005.
Wong's photographic archive includes material from the opening AXL round at Rockhampton, Queensland, and the second round at Fox Studios in Sydney.[1][2][3]
Wellington Hybrid won the Fox Studios event on 8 May 2005, taking the lead in the series standings.[4]
Wong was identified by the nickname Stick in photographs associated with Wellington Hybrid's participation at the 2005 Masters tournament at Action Paintball in Sydney.[5]
His Flickr archive also preserves photographs from the 2006 Australian Masters, the 2006 Big Boys Toys tournament in Auckland and subsequent New Zealand tournament activity.[6][7]
Easter 2007 tournament
[edit]Wong maintained a photographic collection titled Paintball - Easter 2007, containing 228 photographs from a New Zealand tournament held over Easter 2007.[8]
Individual photographs are dated 7 April 2007.
The album records a first-place finish.
Historical participant accounts identify Wellington Hybrid as competing under its existing name at the tournament.
The precise venue and complete results have not yet been established.
SCK Factory (2010)
[edit]In April 2010, Wong competed for SCK Factory, also known as SCK, at the 2010 Easter 5s tournament in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The event was hosted by Urban Paintball.
SCK Factory won the tournament.[9][10]
Wong's Flickr album, titled Paintball - Easter 2010 - Christchurch, explicitly identifies him as playing for SCK and records the team's first-place finish.[9]
The collection contains 52 photographs, including images credited to a photographer identified as Simo.
Menace NZ (2010)
[edit]Wong subsequently competed for Menace at the 2010 Australian Super 7s Masters in November 2010.
The team competed under the name Menace NZ in the professional division of the Australian Super 7s.
American professional player Ryan Greenspan of San Diego Dynasty appeared as a guest player for Menace at the tournament.
Their participation is documented in historical photographs preserved in Wong's Flickr archive, with player identifications supplied through participant accounts.[11]
Menace NZ earned 26 ranking points at the event and finished the 2010 professional series with 82 points.[12]
