Jetts (Australia Paintball Team)

From WikiPaintball

Jetts was an Australian tournament paintball team that competed in Australian events and made documented appearances in New Zealand. The team was considered Australian despite using New Zealand players as event-specific additions during its New Zealand appearances.[1]

Jetts competed in New Zealand's 2001 seven-player season, finishing third in the First Division at the New Zealand Paintball Nationals. In Australia, it placed fourth in the Pro division at the opening round of the 2006 Australian X-Ball League and second in the Semi-Pro division at the final round of the 2006 Australian Super 7s.[1][2][3]

The spelling Jetts is used for the Australian team. Early-2000s New Zealand references printed as Jets are treated as misspellings where the context identifies this team. European teams using Jets are separate subjects.

History

[edit]

2001 New Zealand appearances

[edit]

Jetts competed at RotoVegas in Rotorua during the 2001 New Zealand seven-player season. The October Valhalla National Rankings credited the team with 82.4 points from the preliminary round and 96.7 from the First Division final. The final-round figure was the highest recorded for the four First Division finalists.[4]

The team also entered the 2001 New Zealand Paintball Nationals at Actions Paintball in Auckland. The tournament report identifies Jetts as Australian and records New Zealand organiser Kyn Jackson playing for the team.[1]

The collapse of Ansett disrupted travel for some of Jetts' Australian players. Unnamed members of the New Zealand team Black Dragon consequently joined Jetts for the event. This was an event-specific guest-player arrangement and did not make Jetts a New Zealand team or establish a merger with Black Dragon.[1]

Jetts initially received the second-place trophy after the First Division final. A subsequent countback established that Katipo was five points, equivalent to one elimination, ahead. The trophies were exchanged, leaving Jetts third with 160 final-round points, behind Saints on 225 and Katipo on 165.[1]

The October 2001 Valhalla table ranked Jetts second in New Zealand seven-player competition with 313 cumulative ranking points, behind Saints Gold and ahead of Katipo. This was a ranking based on the team's New Zealand event results, not evidence that Jetts was a New Zealand organisation.[4]

Australian competition in 2006

[edit]

Jetts competed in the Pro division at the first round of the 2006 Australian X-Ball League. The published final order placed X-Fighters Red first, X-Fighters Black second, Blade third and Jetts fourth.[2]

At the final round of the inaugural modern Australian Super 7s season, Jetts finished second in the Semi-Pro division. Sydney X-Fighters won the division and Bitchin finished third. Backlash was the published Semi-Pro series champion.[3]
