Jason Edwards

From WikiPaintball

Jason Edwards, also known by the nickname FK (Fat Kid), is an American professional paintball player, team manager and owner associated with Tampa Bay Damage. Competing professionally since the early 2000s, Edwards has played for several American teams, including the Philadelphia Americans and Miami Rage, and has won multiple professional tournament championships.[1][2]

Edwards has been a longstanding member of Tampa Bay Damage, contributing to the team's World Cup victories in 2011 and 2025. He is also the older brother of fellow professional player Jacob Edwards.[3][4][5]

Playing career

[edit]

Early career

[edit]

Edwards began competing professionally as a teenager. In a 2013 interview, he stated that he had turned professional at the age of 15.[2]

He was associated with the Philadelphia Americans organisation during his early career, including its developmental team, All-Americans 2.

In 2005, All-Americans 2 moved into professional competition following the departure of Miami Effect. Edwards subsequently played for Miami Rage, Jacksonville Raiders and DC Arsenal before returning to the Philadelphia Americans ahead of the 2008 season.[1]

His early playing career was documented by former teammate Tim Montressor, who profiled Edwards in an article later published by ProPaintball.com.[1]

Tampa Bay Damage

[edit]

Edwards became a leading member of Tampa Bay Damage, competing in the professional divisions of Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP), the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL) and subsequently the National Xball League (NXL).

He was part of the Damage roster that won the 2011 PSP World Cup. Contemporary coverage of the victory identified Edwards among the championship-winning players.[3]

During the 2012 season, Edwards received the People's Choice MVP award and was ranked fourth among professional players, according to a January 2013 interview published by Social Paintball.[2]

Edwards also competed internationally with Damage, including appearances in Europe's Millennium Series during 2012.[2]

Team management

[edit]

In January 2015, Tampa Bay Damage announced that it was withdrawing from professional competition following the loss of financial support.

Edwards subsequently became involved in efforts to preserve the team and assumed the role of team manager. Working with the remaining players and industry partners, he helped secure new support from Virtue Paintball, MacDev and other sponsors, allowing Damage to return for the 2015 PSP season.[6]

PBLeagues subsequently listed Edwards as an owner of Tampa Bay Damage.[7]

Later career

[edit]

Edwards continued playing professionally for Damage throughout the 2020s.

He was nominated for the 2023 Summit Awards Defensive Player of the Year, an award organised by Major League Paintball recognising defensive performance in the NXL professional division.[8]

In November 2025, Edwards was part of the Tampa Bay Damage team that won the NXL World Cup, defeating PaintballFIT 4–2 in the professional final. Official tournament statistics record Edwards playing seven matches and 46 points during the event.[9]

He continued competing in 2026, appearing for Damage at the Tampa Bay Open, Mid-Atlantic Open and Midwest Open. Damage won the professional division of the 2026 Mid-Atlantic Open.[10][11]

Playing style

[edit]

Edwards initially developed a reputation as an attacking player before becoming associated with defensive and backline roles.

His playing style has been characterised by strong gunfighting and experience in controlling shooting lanes. His nomination for the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year award reflected his established role within Tampa Bay Damage's defensive structure.[8]

Personal connections

[edit]

Edwards' younger brother, Jacob Edwards, is also a professional paintball player and longtime teammate at Tampa Bay Damage.

In a 2013 interview, Jason described Jacob's progression into professional competition, explaining that Jacob had been practising with Damage before joining its professional roster as a teenager.[2]
