Greg Pauley

From WikiPaintball

Greg Pauley, also known as GP, was an American paintball player, coach and team organiser associated with Vicious, ac Dallas and ac Diesel. His career included playing for Diesel and coaching teams through divisional and professional tournament competition.[1]

Playing and coaching career

[edit]

Vicious

[edit]

Pauley coached Data Support Systems (DSS), the team that became Vicious, during its 2006 Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP) Division 3 campaign. Backed by Karen and Carl Bortol, the team won the SoCal Open and the Division 3 X-ball series title that season.[2]

DSS adopted the Vicious name when it moved into Division 2 in 2007. Pauley combined playing and coaching duties, and the team won the Chicago Open and the Division 2 series title. Vicious subsequently won the Division 1 World Cup in 2008 and the semi-professional World Cup in 2009.[2]

Ac Dallas and ac Diesel

[edit]

Pauley later coached within the ac programme. The Paintball Combine identified him as a coach representing both ac Dallas and ac Diesel, with opportunities for participants to be considered for places on his professional and semi-professional teams.[3]

The National Xball League credited Pauley with assembling a core of former Texas Storm players for ac Diesel. The team finished in the top five at every NXL tournament in 2019 before entering the professional division following Scottsdale Elevation's relegation.[4]

Pauley also worked with the rebuilt ac Dallas roster in 2021, which drew players from the Division 2 PaintballFIT team.[4]

Player development

[edit]

Pauley's work extended to the wider training programme around PaintballFIT. In a 2019 interview, Johnny Luckau credited PaintballFIT coach Casey Harris and the ac programme led by Pauley with helping organise productive practices. These included shared preparation with ac Dallas, ac Diesel and TOG before tournaments.[5]

In a retrospective published after Pauley's death, paintball writer Quinn Nadu described his emphasis on scouting, tactical preparation, decision-making under pressure and player accountability.[1]

Death

[edit]

Pauley died in March 2026. Tributes from Iconic Paintball and Major League Paintball recognised his work as a player, coach and mentor.[1][6]
