Damn Natives (New Zealand Paintball Team)
```mediawiki Damn Natives was a New Zealand tournament paintball team. Its name was also published as Dam Natives, DamNatives and Damnatives. The organisation entered separate Red and Black squads in some competitions.[1][2]
The team competed nationally during 2000 and 2001. DamNatives Red finished second in the Second Division at the 2001 New Zealand Paintball Nationals and headed the three-player category of the October 2001 Valhalla National Rankings.[2][3]
History
[edit]2000 season
[edit]Damn Natives competed at the Easter tournament held at Thunderball Adventure Games in Wellington on 22–23 April 2000. A contemporary Phoenix report confirms its participation but does not provide an exact placing.[4]
On 3 December, the team participated in the inaugural Rotorua Invitational at Blue Lake Reserve. Damn Natives, Tag n' Release, Katipo and Havoc each played the other teams twice; Katipo recorded the highest total and won the event.[5]
The 2000 Valhalla standings ranked DamNatives thirty-third among 37 published team and squad entries, with a score of 22.[6]
2001 season
[edit]The 2001 Valhalla tables record Red and Black entries at the Hawke's Bay Triples. DamNatives Red contributed 46.4 ranking points from the event, while DamNatives Black contributed 29.4.[2]
The base DamNatives name was used in the five-player rankings for the South Pacific Championships, where it received contributions of 42.3 and 40 from the event's two rounds.[2]
At the Wellington Cup, the published tournament report listed Damn Natives fourth with 470 tournament points. The Valhalla table records the corresponding five-player entry as DamNatives Red and assigns it 60 normalised ranking points.[2][7]
DamNatives Red also competed in the seven-player RotoVegas and New Zealand Nationals events. It recorded 63.5 ranking points in the Nationals preliminary round before finishing second in the Second Division final with 130 tournament points, behind Tag and Training on 180.[2][3]
A contemporary contact discussion from November 2001 identifies Toka Pekepoe as the contact for Damn Natives. The spelling is retained as published in that source.[1]
The team was also represented at a social paintball day hosted by Rotorua Paintball Club on 4 November 2001. The contemporary discussion identifies players from Damn Natives among the participants but does not provide a tournament result or roster.[8]
Squads
[edit]DamNatives Red and DamNatives Black were squads of the same Damn Natives organisation, rather than unrelated teams. Their results are retained separately wherever the source records distinct entries.
Red
[edit]Red was the organisation's most frequently recorded squad in 2001. It appeared in seven-player, five-player and three-player ranking tables. Red placed fifth in the October seven-player standings with 215.6 points, sixth in five-player competition with 60, and first in three-player competition with 226.4.[2]
The three-player total comprised 46.4 ranking points from the Hawke's Bay Triples and opening- and final-round contributions of 100 and 80 from the Combat Zone Three-Mans.[2]
Black
[edit]DamNatives Black was recorded separately in the three-player standings. It ranked twenty-third with 29.4 points, all derived from the Hawke's Bay Triples.[2]
