2023 WCPL New York Classic
The 2023 WCPL New York Classic was a paintball tournament held on 9–11 June 2023 at Paintball Sports New York in Clintondale, New York. Part of the World Classic Paintball League's 2023 season, it included Friday field walking followed by open ten-player competition on Saturday and Sunday.[1][2]
All Americans won the 14-team competition, followed by Ironmen and APE Guerrillas.[3]
Venue and schedule
[edit]PBLeagues listed the venue as Paintball Sports New York, at 230 Camp Sunset Road, Clintondale, New York.[1]
The advertised event period was Friday, 9 June, to Sunday, 11 June. The WCPL identified the opening day as a field-walking day, while PBLeagues labelled the playing category Open 10-man (Sat–Sun). Competition was therefore scheduled for 10–11 June.[1][2]
Format
[edit]The tournament used an Open 10v10 format with 12-minute games. PBLeagues recorded 14 registered and paid teams.[1]
To provide each team with eight preliminary games, organisers divided the field into two groups of seven. Each team first played the other six teams in its group. Teams were then reseeded and played two additional cross-group games.[4]
The leading two teams from each group, determined using all eight preliminary games, advanced to a four-team round-robin final.[4]
Finalised score records
[edit]The WCPL subsequently announced that the second-round and final scores had been entered into PBLeagues. The league attributed the delay partly to the unusual preliminary scheduling arrangements required for the 14-team field.[4]
The announcement explained the completed score records and competition structure. It did not announce a replacement event winner.[4]
PBLeagues' published final placings record All Americans first, Ironmen second, APE Guerrillas third and Automen Aces fourth.[3]
