2022 NXL Windy City Major

From WikiPaintball

The 2022 NXL Windy City Major was a paintball tournament held from 9 to 11 September 2022 at Chicago Gaelic Park in Oak Forest, Illinois, United States. It formed part of the National Xball League (NXL) United States season. Edmonton Impact won the professional competition, defeating Red Legion in the final. Heavy rain on Sunday caused the scheduled NXL All-Star game to be postponed.[1][2][3]

Dates and venue

[edit]

The official event dates were 9–11 September 2022. The venue was Chicago Gaelic Park, 6119 West 147th Street, Oak Forest, Illinois.[1]

The tournament followed the 2022 NXL Golden State Open and preceded the 2022 NXL World Cup on the league's United States calendar.[1]

Professional competition

[edit]

New Orleans Hurricanes completed the preliminary round undefeated with a 4–0 record. Edmonton Impact and San Antonio X-Factor each finished their preliminary group with three wins and one defeat.[3]

Impact defeated Houston Heat in overtime in the semi-finals, while Red Legion eliminated San Diego Dynasty.[3]

In the final, Impact established a 3–0 lead. Red Legion recovered two points, but Impact held off its final attack to win the tournament. Alex Goldman received the event most valuable player and Golden Barrel awards.[3]

All-Star game postponement

[edit]

An NXL All-Star game was scheduled for Sunday as a 20-minute X-Ball match between Team Bredthauer (Red) and Team Martinez (Blue).[1][4]

Heavy rain caused the league to postpone the match, with contemporary reporting identifying World Cup as the intended replacement occasion.[3]

Although the registration system displayed the two teams in a numbered order, its score record contained no match score or wins. That entry does not establish a completed All-Star result at the Windy City Major.[2][4]

Divisional competition

[edit]

Blast Camp won the semi-professional tournament against Austin Notorious, recording its third event victory of the season. STRUGGLE defeated East Coast Effect 6–5 in the Division 2 X-Ball final.[3]

New York Wrecking Crew won Division 3 X-Ball with a 4–1 final victory against Shut up we're trying. Tribe defeated Tropic Thunder to win Division 4 X-Ball.[3]
