2018 Paintball Combine & Winter Classic
The 2018 Paintball Combine & Winter Classic was a paintball player assessment and tournament event in Kissimmee, Florida, United States. The Winter Classic tournament took place on 27–28 January 2018 at Austin-Tindall Regional Park, following the associated National Paintball Combine programme.[1][2]
The official tournament record lists the event under Boston Paintball. Combine Worr Games won the Amateur D3/D4 five-player division.[1][3]
Dates and venue
[edit]The Winter Classic tournament was held at Austin-Tindall Regional Park, 4100 Boggy Creek Road, Kissimmee, on Saturday, 27 January, and Sunday, 28 January 2018.[1]
In a contemporary account published on 1 February, professional player Marcello Margott described the wider Combine programme beginning with Thursday evening check-in and Friday assessment drills, followed by tournament play over the weekend.[2]
Organisation and NXL relationship
[edit]PBLeagues records the tournament as a Boston Paintball event, rather than under the National Xball League event listing. Its registered name was Paintball Combine & Winter Classic.[1]
Several teams associated with the NXL participated in the Open division, including Houston Heat, San Antonio X-Factor, San Diego Dynasty and New York Xtreme. The presence of these teams should be distinguished from the event's recorded organiser.[3]
National Paintball Combine
[edit]Margott reported that the Combine attracted approximately 120 participants. Players rotated through assessment stations covering shooting from the break, movement, individual engagements and attacking drills on the snake and Dorito sides of the field.[2]
The programme provided opportunities for players to demonstrate their abilities to professional coaches and team representatives. Participants were subsequently assigned to teams for the Winter Classic.[2]
Margott also described a selection of 12 participants for a timed obstacle-course assessment. Selected players were drafted by Brad McCurley, Greg Siewers and Thomas Taylor to compete alongside them in the Open division.[2]
Tournament formats
[edit]The Winter Classic offered three five-player divisions:
- Open.
- Amateur D3/D4.
- Rookie.[1]
All three were advertised with five-minute game times. The registration record lists 29 paid team entries: eight Open, 12 Amateur D3/D4 and nine Rookie.[1]

[edit]The official results record publishes final placings for Amateur D3/D4. Open and Rookie teams are listed without finishing positions or ranking points.[3]
