2017 NXL Winter Classic
The 2017 NXL Winter Classic was a National Xball League (NXL) paintball tournament held on 11–12 February 2017 at Austin-Tindall Regional Park in Kissimmee, Florida, United States. The event featured traditional five-player competition and separate Open and Amateur two-player competitions.[1][2]
San Antonio X-Factor won the Open Pro five-player division. Contemporary coverage described the tournament as the first NXL Winter Classic.[3]
Dates and venue
[edit]The tournament took place at Austin-Tindall Regional Park, 4100 Boggy Creek Road, Kissimmee, Florida, on Saturday, 11 February, and Sunday, 12 February 2017.[1]
The two-player competitions were separately recorded under the NXL 2vs2 Series for Sunday, 12 February.[2]
NXL status and formats
[edit]The Winter Classic appears in the NXL's official event records and calendar. Its principal competition was five-player paintball, rather than the professional X-Ball format used at the league's subsequent national opens.[1]
The completed five-player divisions were Open Pro, Division 2 and Division 4. These divisions were advertised with five-minute game times. Divisions 3 and 5 were also offered for registration but attracted no entries and have no published placings.[1][4]
Open and Amateur two-player competitions were advertised with three-minute game times. Their results were recorded separately through the NXL 2vs2 Series.[1][2][5]
Open Pro competition
[edit]San Antonio X-Factor finished first, ahead of Paintball Combine AllStars and San Diego Dynasty.[4]
Paintball Media identified X-Factor's five-player squad as Archie Montemayor, Colt Roberts, Grayson Goff, Billy Bernacchia and Jon Woodley. Its report described the AllStars opposition as including players associated with Edmonton Impact, Los Angeles Ironmen and upTon 187 cRew.[3]
