2013 NPPL Huntington Beach Open

From WikiPaintball

The 2013 NPPL Huntington Beach Open, promoted as the NPPL Surf City USA Open, was a National Professional Paintball League tournament held from 12–14 April 2013 at Pier Plaza in Huntington Beach, California, United States. It opened the league's 2013 national tournament season.[1]

San Antonio X-Factor won the professional division, defeating Vancouver Vendetta 4–1 in the final. Portland Uprising finished third and Fort Wayne Outlaws fourth.[2][3]

Venue

[edit]

The tournament was played on the beach at Huntington Beach Pier Plaza. The NPPL's announcement identified the venue as 405 Pacific Coast Highway and advertised competition from 7 am to 5 pm daily.[1]

The event included a paintball trade show, public shooting booths, free viewing areas and ticketed centre-court seating. It marked the eleventh consecutive year that the NPPL had brought its tournament to Huntington Beach.[1]

Professional competition

[edit]

The professional field changed substantially before the 2013 season. Sacramento XSV, Tampa Bay Damage, Edmonton Impact and Los Angeles Infamous were among the established teams that had left NPPL competition.[4]

DC Arsenal withdrew shortly before Huntington Beach. Contemporary reporting confirmed that Arsenal did not compete and that Arsenal Crush, drawn from Buffalo Crush's Division 1 line, filled the vacancy.[5]

X-Factor defeated Vancouver Vendetta 4–1 in the professional final.[2]
