2009 USPL D.C. Challenge
The 2009 USPL D.C. Challenge was a US Paintball League (USPL) tournament held from 28 to 30 August 2009 at Pev's Paintball Park in Aldie, Virginia. Originally scheduled for May, it became the third event of the revised 2009 USPL season. DC Arsenal won the professional seven-player division, ahead of Oakland Blast. Competition also included amateur seven-player, five-player and open pump divisions.[1][2][3]
Scheduling and venue
[edit]The league's original calendar scheduled the tournament for 15–17 May 2009 at Pev's Paintball Park in the Washington, D.C., area.[4]
On 29 April, the USPL announced that the event would be postponed until 28–30 August at Pev's Paintball Park in Aldie, Virginia. The announcement reduced the national season to four tournaments. Participation in the D.C. Challenge was required for teams seeking an Eastern Conference championship.[3]
Despite its name, the tournament took place in Virginia rather than within Washington, D.C.[1][3]
NPPL relationship
[edit]The event operated under the USPL name. In its April announcement, the USPL stated that it had purchased the trademarks and rights to the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL) Super 7 World Series and would retain NPPL sanctioning rules and committees. Its member teams were considering whether to adopt the NPPL name for the following year.[3]
Competition
[edit]Amateur seven-player competition began on Friday. Professional preliminary play began on Saturday, with teams divided between morning and afternoon groups. The pump competition took place on Sunday.[1]
DC Arsenal won all seven professional preliminary games. Oakland Blast subsequently won all seven quarter-final games. Arsenal ultimately secured its third professional tournament victory of the season. Dynasty Entourage also recorded its third consecutive Division 1 victory.[1]
